If I connect my 12" PB G4 to my clients iMac and boot my machine while holding the letter "T" will the drive of the iMac appear on the desktop of my PB?

Beyond the question mark system folder that appears when I boot my clients iMac will this cause an issue with Target Disk Mode as the iMac is not able to boot?

You want to acccess the iMac from your PB? Then you need to boot the iMac holding T and wait for it to show up on your PB desktop. I dont think it should make a difference if the iMac is not able to boot. But I'm not 100% on this. Be sure to eject the iMac from your desktop befor eyou unplug the firewire cables though! Also, do you know what caused his system not to boot? It seems that's usually easily solved as long as you have the OS disks.

Not to sure whats causing the no boot? tried booting form disk, ext., ran the Apple system repair disk no such luck. We think it may have to do with an Apple update of some sort. So do I boot the iMac hold "T" the boot my PB G4 and wait for the mounted disk?

Have the iMac off and your PB on. Connnect the firewire and boot up the iMac holding its T key and wait for it to show on your PB. They have an article on it at the apple support site i could dig up for you but you'll probably be able to get it in target mode without it.

The Firmware of the iMac is likely not up to date so the Powerbook is not seen.

No easy answer on this unless you can boot off the iMac in 9 to update the firmware.

Not to sure about the firmware as I haven't connected the two yet via firewire, will see later... hopeful its a newer iMac 15' 1GHz and it was running OS X.3.2 until this week.

If it's a G4 then you should have no problem in either direction via Firewire - just use option upon boot to choose the desired boot drive

Just a note - keeping the firewire disconnected until the target mode computer is up with the FW icon on the screen THEN plugging the firewire cable in is a safer method for both machines.
