I have a beige G3 333 tower running system 9.2 that originally came with a French apple extended keyboard. We had no problems using the French characters but hated the feel of the keys. I wanted to switch to an apple pro keyboard on this machine (because my wife types in French) but I'm not sure I can. I have a 3rd party USB card in this machine so I decided to try it out. When I plugged the apple pro in, it worked fine (even the volume/mute/eject keys!)...except the french characters don't work : (. I used the Canadian CSA keyboard layout for the old keyboard but the new one doesn't seem to recognize it and always uses the US layout. I tried other French layouts but it still doesn't work. Apple states the system requirements for the Pro keyboard include a "USB-equipped" Mac. Does this mean from the factory? I cannot seem to get a clear answer on the Web. According to some people this keyboard will not work on a beige machine. I believe I have the latest drivers for my USB card so I'm not sure what else to try.
Can someone provide some guidance....or maybe recommend another French keyboard if I can't use the Apple Pro.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
