Fresh out the OS 9 nightmare, I'm trying to get my CDRW to work.

Just installed a Lite-On 52327s in my Lacie case. I fire up iTunes in the drive is not recognized (before AND after I modded the syst file). More importantly, when I take a look @ my syst profiler, all the info shows but the Product ID, Vendor ID and revision:

FireWire (PC Card):
FireWire Device Information
GUID : d04b010327a014
Vendor ID : 53323
Speed : 400 Mb/sec
Unit SW Version : 10483
Vendor Name : LaCie Group SA
Product Name : LaCie 1394 CD-ROM drive

No mention of supported burning either. Why is the Vendor not showing up?? The Lacie case is showing up so something went right. Did I not plug something correctly?

H!

Guess you're back in X

Check the jumper settings on the drive-should be master by default, but you may have to either set it to Cable select for your case, or no jumpers at all...
Take a look at how the previous drive was jumpered.
Do you have Toast? If the drive is configured correctly, it should show up there, with model number of drive. Otherwise try PatchBurn, instead of the hacked plug-in file, to enable Finder/Disk Copy burning...
Check the drive database at Xlr8yourmac.com for tips on your particular Lite-on, and Lite-on burners in general...
I just checked drive database-your model is natively supported in 10.2.8 and Panther, at least installed internally...also at least one report of success in external firewire case...

BTW, Master/Slave designations may be banned in California

All data reviewed indicates that i should be able plug n play.

[sigh]

My escapade in the Matrix forced me to tamper with a file that I may have to bring back. I'll need to do that 1st I think.

but my main thing is that there must be something up - I have not sight of the IDs so I think that I'lll have to check the burner install again.

Holy troubleshooting (I'm running out of bullets).
