I'd be interested in reading stories about running an add-in USB card with OS 8.6

Good results? Bad results? Problems and how did you fix them?

Thanks!

Todd,
I did this to my old mac powerwave and it worked just fine with OS 8.6. In fact it is still in the old machine in the basement somewhere.

Just to be clear - by "Powerwave" you mean the Power Computing Powerwave model, correct?

Do you remember what USB card brand you installed? Did it work right away or did you need to install anything extra?

We had an older USB 2-port card in our Power Computing Power Center, and it had pretty ill effects. It made our sound all wonky and "stuttery" and no matter what we did, it didn't fix the problem. Only solution was to yank the card out.

Lars2: Was that under 8.6? Do you remember what card model you had?

USB cards work fine with 8.6 but you need the right driver which is hard to find. Email me IF you end up needing it. It IS different than the driver for OS9.

I read this on Apple's site:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=31132

Is there different software to get certain cards to work in 8.6 beyond the USB software from Apple?

OK Todd,

Just got home from work. My old power computing powerwave had a StarTech.com Dual port PCI USB card installed and it worked just fine under OS8.6 (USB version 1.1 compliant)

The version number is different. 1.4.1 for 9.x ( no USB card works with 9.2.2 ) and 1.2.1 for 8.6

I wouldn't say that so quickly - my USB PCI card in my Beige G3 works perfectly under OS 9.2.2. Both my 2-port USB card and USB/FireWire combo card with no extra drivers.
