My place of work has two QuickSilvers 733 running 9.2.
We work in an output enviroment going CTP, where OSX is not able to run as of yet.
Anyway, thats besides the point. Both machines have
Photoshop 7 installed. The problem seems to be when we save an image on one machine there is no problem.
However when we save on the other machine, and try and make plates to go to press, the colour from one machine to the other saved file is much different. When we don't save the images, the colour stays the same, from one machine to the other.
We are going to try and re-load Photoshop on the machine that won't save the images properly.
Do you think this is the way to proceed.
Thanks
Yes, it is. It just so happens the owners son used this machine, the one that is having problems re-saving.
You see, the owner decided his son, 25 years old, could take some six week Quark course and he would be a Mac operator!!! This kid never made out of grade nine. He smokes dope daily and was put in the pre-press department to learn. The problem was, all he did was surf the net and spend time in chat rooms. We have a ten year experienced Mac operator, and now I have been put in the room to actually work. I only have six months experience but I am learning daily. I waited two years to get in. The Mac operator threatened to quit if they didn't take the son out of the room.
Sorry to get off topic but I needed alittle venting.
I will check the colour settings. What should I be looking for exactly?
Spencer the problem is that both Photoshops dont' have the same colour setting set.
You can change each image for a different press setting like WEB setting or Cold Press. What these do is alter the densities of the image. So when you colour correct the images you could be making them darker or lighter. Depending on your colour settings.
Anyway under File (i believe, I'm running OSX so it's different) There is a colour setting option. Just make sure that both machines are set the same.
And I know what you mean by venting. I have over 14 years experience in DTP/Design and Film and now I have some kid with about 4 years put above me. What can you do when you have idiotic bosses that make moves like this.
Hope this helps you.

Excellent, bmovie.
I will check the settings. This sounds like the problem.
As for the trade. I too have been in it for 14 years.
It seems these days, anybody that has a computer, is all of a sudden a litho expert!!! When in reallity, people have no idea what it takes to reproduce files through a RIP.
Thanks for the advice.
Also, perhaps you should look into color calibration software to ensure that the displays on each system offer identical color representation. Note that this software and the calibration "puck" are rather pricey.
As long as puppies come out of short term courses and are willng to work for peanuts, there will always be idiot salesmen and owners who will assume that that is the going rate and experience is not needed...
Reality is that this practice puts the company on the fast track to nowhere... And most can't wait to get there...
Cover your own a*s, give the inexperienced a chance to learn, but if it is the boss's idot son... let him hang himself out to dry. Take no reponsibility for his work. {No matter how much they try to pin it on you.}
There are good companies out there who are looking for talented Mac Heads. Sometimes it is had to be seen amonst the low end, but remember, people can be cheap and hire the lowest wage to accept the job but they get what they pay for and at some point realize that they have to pay to get and keep quality...
