Hi, yesterday I networked 2 computers, and used the other one as a startup disk for mine...Now the other computer is gone, I tried to start my iBook, and all I get as startup is a drawing of an earth in a square box....
If I try to hold down the shift key, it gives me a box with a question mark...
Anyone can explain to a 0 knowledge guy how to fix this ?
You must see your hard drive and boot on it.
Actually your computer try to boot via netboot on a network.

Hold the option key down when you start up the computer to access Open Firmware, and click on your hard disk and press the arrow to start up off it, and then make sure once it has started up that your startup disk is set right.
The earth means you started it up off a network NetBoot image as Bertrand said.
If that doesn't work, if you just leave it, it should eventually boot. I've had a few customer ask me why it takes 10 minutes to boot. Once you do boot it up, select your startup disk and you shouldn't have that problem again.
Were you using, by chance, firewire transfer mode to do this transfer? Did you shut down the host and backup system properly before disconnecting the cable?
If not - you may have fried your IDE control board and it's never coming back. There has been a number of threads on this very subject in the past year and the one I remember was Roland's.

I f you can boot like that, it will be a good idea to set this internal drive as boot drive in "System preferences -- Start disk".
