Question

I now notice with Panther that Software Update wants to download and install the iMac 15" FP G4 Firmware update for Superdrive.

The problem is, it's already installed. I checked the update log and it even shows that it's been installed.

I try to launch the Firmware updater and it says it's already updated.

So how do I get Software update to stop offering it? It's a minor inconvenience, but I'd rather not see it at all given the circumstances.

Any help would be great! TIA.

Download it anyway and see what happens. Replacing the firmware (if possible) probably won't cause any weird misbehavior.

I did... twice, and in either case it says it's already installed You can't go beyond that point. The only option is to quit the updater.

EDIT: Looks like a couple of other people have had the same problem.

So, it looks like the best thing to do is use the "Ignore Update" menu option.

I had no idea it existed. Wierd. Anyway, problem solved... sort of.

Sounds like the recipt is gone, corrupted or otherwise wacko.

You find recipts at /Library/Recipts

... where every application that's been installed has a package file. If the package is there, it won't ask you to install again.

Removing the package is a great way to reinstall a program that balks at the installer for some reason, by the way.

Thanks gordguide, very cool suggestion.

I tried removing the recipt but when I download the update and attempted to reinstall the firmware update, it still says I don't need it...

Oh well. At least I can tell Software update to ignore that particular update.

Manny,

I have this same annoyance with a QS tower, and not with any of our other superdrive models.

I had been just ignoring it, after the first few installs
