Hi everyone,

Just got my iBook so I can move over from the trading post to the help forum now!

One thing I can't figure out how to do. I have an HP Laserjet 1000 printer hooked up to a Win XP machine on my network. I can get to the printer in the printer setup, but there are no drivers listed for that printer and HP doesn't have any on their site. Anyone know of any compatible printers that I could choose?

Thanks in advance!

Install the Gimp Print drivers. The driver for your printer is found there.

The Gimp print drivers can be installed in Panther from the Panther CD or if you have Jaguar;

Thanks for that... I'll give it a try when I'm home later tonight. I had looked into those drivers before but I didn't seen the Laserjet 1000 listed there... there are lots of other Laserjet's but not that one.

I'll look into it again later though. Thanks!

Ya... I saw that on Google too - only thing I'm confused about is in the title it's a HPLaserjet 1100 but it's a 1000 in the post. One does have Gimp support, and the other doesn't - I guess I'll just have to try and see what happens.

Alright... so from what I have tried, the Gimp Print drivers do not work with the Laserjet 1000.

I've moved on to try what is explained at this link:
http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx-faq.html#q_17_1

Problem is 2 things...
1. I can't get it to compile properly - lots of errors
2. The getweb doesn't work for me

Therefore, the make install won't work either.

There is a PPD file included with the tar file that I downloaded - I've tried putting it in the printer folder in the Library but no luck with that either. I've also been doing all of this with the printer hooked directly to the iBook so that the extra network complications won't be a factor.

Any other ideas?

Hi again,

Alright... problem solved. I never did get the printer to actually print on my iBook, but since it's hooked up to a Windows XP machine on my network, I was able to use an emulation strategy. For anyone else interested, here's the link that I eventually came across that saved the day!

Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions!
