Help with Reminders on iPhone 3Gs/Mountain Lion

iPhone 3Gs running iOS5 and Mac running Mountain Lion.

Yesterday I set a Reminder on my phone in the Reminders app saying "xxxxx at 16:50 tomorrow".

When I look at the reminder (or when I look in iCal on my Mac) I do not see an action set for that time today. Of course, I still have to wait for half an hour now and see if the reminder pops up, but it does seem odd that it does not show up other than as a note!

What am I doing wrong?

Cheers

What OS is running on the phone? If it's not iOS 5, it won't support iCloud reminders as far as I'm aware.

I am running iOS 5 John And I do not care about iCloud, I just want my phone to remind me at 4:50 this evening and it does not give me any indication that it will (I have to wait 10 more minutes to verify that)

Cheers

Is your iCloud information set in the iCloud preference pane on the Mac? That is required; reminders works with iCloud.

Lars, yes it is, but again, I do not care about synching my reminders or having my Mac remind me about smething I set on my iPhone etc.

All I want is to set a reminder on my iphone and have my iphone remind me about it.

And by the way, at 16:50 this afternoon, nothing happened. No reminders, no nothing.

So, now I am beginning to question the usefulness of the Reminder app when iCal is there to take care of things in the Mac and Alarm is there on the iPhone as part of the Clock app.

Cheers

I'll take a crack at this.
For me I have 3 exchange accounts (2 are gmail, 1 is work) and iCloud. The latter is the default account for everything PIM related.

1 is your reminder set for a specific day & time?
2 (you can set a location based reminder as alternative)
3 check in settings for Notifications: reminders is enabled? Banners or modal? Alerts within here is there a tone set?
4 Alerts/Sounds is this enabled an vibration works?

My test just worked. I'll see if I ca n attach screenshots from iPhone.

Hmm. Only 1/6 attachments worked in mobile safari.

So I recap. Check the reminder is not set to location but time based. Check notifications to see if Reminders is enabled. Check in Settings to see your default account (shouldn't really matter I think), check Settings>Sounds for Reminders/Alerts is enabled and vibration as well.

Thanks Jagga.

Notifications enabled for Reminders
Alert style
I do not see a setting for location-based or time-based (I am on a 3Gs)
My reminder was "Checkin tomorrow at 16:50", so I guess it is for a specific day and time.
Alerts, Sounds enabled and vibration works.
iCloud set as default for Reminders.

Cheers

k ... got to a computer today ....
When you create the Reminder itself, a) you'll create the name/title of the Reminder, b) tapping the right-arrow to view more you'll see "Remind Me on a Day" or "Remind Me At a Location".

screenshots hopefully its helpful.

Jaffa, thank you for the very detailed response with screenshots. I guess my fault was in presuming that typing whatever I woul normally dictate to Siri would perform the same function. In iCal I can actually type "checking tomorrow at 16:50 and it will remind me, so I mistakenly presumed something similar would work in reminders.

Guess reminders is useless to me. I shall stick with alarm and iCal

Thanks once again for your patience and help.

Cheers
