Why so much resistance to re-installing the OS? It's something that we all need to do occasionally, and if you don't know how, there's no time like the present to learn. A complete "nuke and pave" in the absence of any hardware problem is just like getting a whole new Mac - all kinds of hidden problems that just cause slowdowns rather than crashes are swept away along with the big nasty ones.

Actually, I'm overdue for a nuke & pave myself - my Finder and Mail.app have been a bit flaky since the 10.2.8 update. There's no point in doing it now, though - I'm waiting a couple of weeks for Panther time.

Cheers :-> Bill

I found that when I was running an older install of OS X.2.6 on my dual 867 MDD G4, Safari was crashing on a frequent basis. Now that I have a fresh install of OS X.2.7 on my G5 Safari has yet to crash. The thing that comes to mind right away is that I'm running the standard Apple install of OS X. I'm not running any 3rd party plugin apps that I used to have running on the old G4. I was running unsanity haxies and an OS X theme that hacked the way the GUI looked. If you do have any 3rd party apps installed in your version of OS X then maybe they could be the culprit. Just a suggestion, I don't even know your current setup so maybe this won't make a difference to you at all.
