iPod Touch G4 smashed glass... anyone attempted a DIY repair?

My daughter has had the worst luck with iPods. First one- stolen a month after she got it. Second one- went swimming and sort of survived . Third one- got ran over when she was trying to escape a speeder on the road and lost it out of her pocket . Amazingly... still works, but the glass is pretty crunched. Just wondering if anyone has attempted DIY repairs using a YouTube video. We''re pretty good with electronics, but looking for some advice before I order the parts. Good place to order parts that won't cost a fortune?

my iPhone slipped out it's holster and landed in the dirt where we dump our scrap steel, called around to my last stops when I realized it was missing, they found it but it had been run over. Not one piece of glass bigger than your fingernail remained. I need my phone, ran to Apple and explained what happened, it was under applecare still and they replaced it as a one time thing, can't remember how they classified it but it cost me only some where around $150. Give them a call and see what happens.

$149 at an Apple store, it's called an "out of warranty" repair (replacement with a refurb).

iPod touches aren't an easy fix. Basically held together with glue. iPhone's atleast have a few screws.

See ifixit.com for how to's but botched repair attempts are not covered by apple and would probably make the device not applicable to the out of warranty replacement program.

That's what I did, you get a whole new/refurbished ipod touch.
