Hi everyone,

I recently bought a "new, retail boxed Final Cut Express" from a eBay user in Ontario. When I received it, it wasn't shrinkwrapped (don't believe they usually are) but sealed with two clear round stickers on the top and bottom.

When I opened the box I found the 2 cds out of their sleeves and the install cd was a little scratched up.

I would think Apple would seal the cds in their sleeves? For those who purchased the retail boxed version, how was your sealed?

In other words, did I get ripped off buying a used copy? It is a possibility that the cd just got scratched up because it was out of the sleeve.

Thanks for your help!

Could be nothing; ie the disks just came out of the sleeves.

Don't know about FCE but in my experience Apple boxed SW comes with sleeves that are not always sealed; when they are, there's usually a sticker of some kind that you can cut open (if it's been simply removed, you should be able to tell from the sleeve).

Many reputable eBay'ers will open boxes to check contents; it appears your box was still sealed so it's just as likely he didn't check it and that's the way it came.

Although a lot of Apple SW has no registration keys/serial numbers at all, when they do (as I'm sure FCE does) Apple keeps pretty good track of them.

So, your best bet is to register the SW as soon as possible with Apple. If there's any problems at all, you should be able to show you have the box, manuals, original disks, etc and they will probably issue a new number.

Although it's hard to say for sure, it doesn't sound that suspicious to me.
