For some reason I ended up with an mov file that I cannot play back even though other mov files from the same video camera always played back fine.
I tried every possible suggestion I could find on the net - tried to open it in all video players and editors I could find, none worked, some claimed it was not a .mov file, others simply gave a message that this file cannot be opened.
Trouble is they want 29 Euros or something like $40 to repair one video which I find rather pricey.
Just wondering if there is anything else out there that people have had good luck with repairing a .mov file.
The $40 price is to repair 5 files, for unlimited use it's 100 Euros or about $135.-
If one does this professionally, the $135 price is actually very reasonable since that software repairs mov files that other software can't even touch.
In the demo version, it just repairs the first half of the file, in my case 35 minutes of a 70 minute video.
No other restrictions, no watermarks or anything.
This is nice, you see exactly what you will get.
I'm not in a rush to get this file repaired; I'll just see if any other options show up that I haven't tried.
I probably already spent "$40.-" of my time, but it's the principle.
When you google this subject, this software comes up fairly often as being excellent to retrieve corrupt mov files but one also often sees comments about their high pricing.
Based on what I read on the net, mov files tend to get corrupted if the video recorder "runs out of juice" or somehow unexpectedly shuts down.
The recording session was a one-time unique event, so unless I find some other way to save that file, I will probably cough up and pay.
I assume there is not that much wrong with the file itself, probably just didn't close properly - but it sure stumps all the other video repair applications I tried including a number of expensive commercial ones.
I have a choice of using .avi as the container for the recording rather than .mov, maybe that is a better choice for the future.
I googled for "Digital Video Repair"
The application by that name is only for Windows. Digital Video Repair - Download
When one googles Digital Video Repair Mac" one gets two choices, neither one is a video repair option, one repairs audio files, the other the media.
But that application is also $30.-
