One day the printer wasn't there. Spent considerable time with Apple support only to be told (nicely) that the problem lay with Canon.

Well I don't quite buy that. The printer WAS working just fine and still works on the Mac Mini (166) Snow Leopard. and still works with a Windows laptop.

The printer does not show up under Hardware/USB Device Tree.

Nor does the related Canon software show up under Software/Printer Software…. even tho I have installed it…repeatedly. I'm thinking this is probably a decent clue but hey…. I'm old and slow. -_Q

Apple support had me conduct several reboots with an assortment of key combo's for Pram reset etc but to no avail.

Oh and Yes… I've downloaded the drivers & relevant software from the Canon site.

While I cannot say for certain I believe the problem surfaced following that somewhat confusing (to me) 2nd update related to 10.7.4. Regardless the printer isn't working with this iMac.

All clues very much welcome.
I have a lot of hair but it's coming out by the handful.

have seen the same thing numerous times. ended up having to manually backup files and folders and then do a nuke and pave and re-install from scratch and that was the only way that the issue stayed fixed

edit: thats obviously last ditch solution though.

Thanks for the quick reply.... and don't ask me HOW or why.... other than perhaps loud repeated and obscene screams but the MP 600 has been detected and has in fact printed something.

I just kept reinstalling and reconnecting the USB and somewhere along the line something 'connected.' I wish I knew what so there'd be some sort of satisfactory answer for others but alas let's just call it magic.
