just happened. my machine locked up and the screen was greyed out with a white box in the centre telling me to restart. I had mail, itunes, safari, and messenger open.
I'm running 10.2.6 on an emac g4 700 with 640 meg of ram. any idea what happened?

Mr. buck, you are the lucky winner of a brand new Kernal Panic!

I wouldn't worry about it too much, if it starts happening regularly then have your machine looked at.

I haven't had one in a long time. I've been using OS X since the Public Beta and I can probably count the amount I have had on two hands (not bad in 3 years, especially counting the beta where I had most of them).

Check this link for a good description of kernel panics & their causes. I've only had 2 in the past year but from the posts I've seen on various websites, some people are just plagued by them.

I wouldn't worry a kernel panic occurs once in a while. If they happen frequently, something's very wrong with your system...

Rumours to the contrary X DOES on occasion hiccup.

We've had way more on 10.2.6 on machines that used to be bullet proof. Not sure why.

I'm suspicious of that Apple drive update - I've avoided it as I've heard people with lots of Classic issues after the "fix".

Any feedback on this??
