why do people take so long to respond ?

I have posted replies to people trying to sell their Ipods , but I swear 3 out 4 times the responses are verrrrry slow or non existant . My point is , if you want to sell something , and someone responds to the ad at least let the person know yes its still here or no its sold . Seems like the only ones that respond fast are the frauds who want to take your money quick

That's a bit harsh. There may be several reasons people don't respond quickly. They may be ill, they may be away, thier ISP may be down, they may not be delighted by your offer etc. Being as you just became a member, you wouldn't know that a lot of members here prefer to deal with other members that they have a "feel for".

If there is an item of interest for you PM the seller a second time, perhaps you could leave a contact number. My experience has always been very good here with fast and honest dealings.

I'm experiencing the "no response" situation right now (and I’ve sent a second note them) and I've seen others where someone has posted a question about an item and the seller takes a long time to respond if they even do. It's frustrating. I understand if someone gets sick, that's kind of unpredictable... .....but, and actually I put this on another post, if you're going on holiday please don't post an ad. I can only imagine the numbers of people reading through the Trading Post and could be interested in your stuff. And, potentially a buyer could end up losing out on another deal waiting for a seller's response.

And as a buyer, when do you give up on a seller who's posted an ad but doesn't respond to your show of interest in their item??

....hmmm...etiquette. ...and hey....Are there any sellers out there who might offer some buyers some tips on etiquette as well. (it should go both ways!) Perhaps a thread on Buyer/Seller etiquette?? Does one already exist?

ps JAG....welcome to ehmac! Did you just learn about the site or...having you been more silently watching from the virtual wings?! I did that for a while.

Personally I dont have time to respond to every offer Im given on my things. I work for a living, when Im not working Im out places... always busy! I respond to the questions that are reasonable (I get a lot of questions that are already answered in the ads!!!) and also reasonable offers... not ones that are rediculously low!

i value communication in on both sides of the sale
i consider lack of communication as a reason not to trust the seller
i think too many sellers don't regard communication as being important
fyi, when i am the seller i try my best to reply to each and every inquiry
