John Howard.

This guy offered me a G4 for $765. Need a replacement machine so can could work on my Graduation Porfolio. Made the payment and guess what.... NO laptop, and he won't answer any emails.

Add me to the list of people who want some justice. We don't need people like him in our honest community.

If anything, the scammer a**hole chose the fake name on purpose.
Scammers are choosing real names all the time ,.....just not there own!!
For example, I had an ad for a Powerbook combodrive and some ram for about $95.00 and some guy with wretched spelling, wants to pay me double that price to end the auction. Anyway, he's dictating to me how he will pay by Western Union, and USPS will be contacting me.Asked me for my full name and address, which I didn't give him.Ya, right, whatever you say! My reply was: Ok, so let me have your address, .....so I know who to send the shipment to.I'll pay the shipping. So, the guy replys, and gives me this address; Stan Williams, 1653 something Estates, Logos, Nigeria!!
I, thought that was pretty funny.

This criminal and others like them should recieve public beatings every day for a month. That will discourage others and they won'jt do it again. We should be able to spit and **** on them. They deserve it. Not everyone has money. I got scammed for 760$ from him. I tried to buy a iMac G4 from him. Certapayed him the cash and never got the computer. no response. i filed a report on www.recol.ca listing other victims to link our cases.

Again, though, these people DO need to be beaten. Seriously. That's the only thing that seems to deter criminals these days. IT's not like they killed someone or commited sex crimes, they just stole large amounts of money from people who may or may not be able to cover the lost money. I saved for a year for that money. I'm soured against MAC now because i got burned trying to buy one. It's not logical but its true. Maybe when I am rich I'll buy a new mac.

1. when buying privately - only buy what you can see and touch
2. otherwise stick to real retail stores and again

i'd never spend more than $100 or so in a private virtual sale

There are scammers and thieves in all areas of society. Get your driveway done, get your roof done, buy a used car, engage in casual sex, you get the idea. YOU have to be aware of the risk and protect yourself, take any measures you deem appropriate. If it feels iffy run. No its not logical to become brand averse because some slimeball didn't deliver the product and took your money. I buy and sell a lot of stuff here and have never had a problem.

The steps I take (if not buying locally) are:

determine your comfort level for a transaction

ensure that the price is reasonable (not a bargain)

get a real email address

get a real name

get a phone number and call the seller to confirm the number, and deal details, and satisfy yourself that he is for real

I try to pay with paypal if possible, insured up to 1200 I think, and credit card company will reverse the payment if there is a fraud

have the item shipped with a tracking number and if you can't find it in the tracking system within a few days get on it and call the seller

if I am uncomfortable with any of the above I pass and move on

If you have any other suggestions I would be happy to hear them.
