Devyn Honeywell knew he took a risk when he bought a 1995 Chevy S-10 off Kijiji about a month ago based on the owner’s word alone.
"He told me that he had a bunch of work done to it and that it would last me a while,"
Quote:
"When I went around the turn and it started to twist, the box part started to twist apart from the cab and since it’s a rear-wheel drive, I lost my steering so I went into the pole."
That is just plain silly. Regardless of where the car was listed.

Yeah, it doesn't matter where the thing is advertised. I remember someone ready to by an old Alfa Romeo Spider. The mechanic told them that it was held together by Bondo and advised them not to take the corners too hard on the way back, so it would remain in one piece.

I recall seeing a program from the UK that talked about welding one half of a car to another. That crap was scary.
That happens all over the place. That is where insurance write-off's go that have one end still intact. If you ever see a car driving down the road and it looks like it is driving at an angle, that is one.

And the ones that are not partially intact are sold by the insurance companies to chop shops. The VIN numbers then magically become part of a stolen vehicle. No wonder insurance rates are so high.

Absolutely - not my intent to call into question Kijiji's autos in particular, simply that it was the source of this particular vehicle.
My current ride - a '94 Mexican Beetle ("vocho") - was a mistake. We needed wheels immediately, and bought it sight-unseen (my brother-in-law found it at a big weekend car sale event they have here every couple of weeks, and we thought he had given it a better once-or-twice-over, alas, no).
Fortunately a family friend here is a VW enthusiast and knows the right mechanic. Last week the brakes disappeared (good thing I know how to drive a stick).... a simple fix, but quite an experience on the multi-lane boulevard running through our city...
