Our simple MW unit bought from a neighbor for $40 some 7 years ago just stopped today. No power.
I know there are a bjillion out there.
Want something with simple controls.
Medium to large - ease of use very important - don't want a 747 cockpit.
TIA

We bought a microwave based mainly on the simplicity of controls, only to discover that the simply labelled buttons are unreliable indications of actual power. For example, the "pizza" button warms butter, not much more, while the "potato" button could bake a potato the size of a small microwave...
So I have no useful advice, just want to emphasize, beware beware...

Panasonic seems to be the best as I have gone through several that just don't do the job.
This is a very popular model and very easy to use. My girlfriend has one and so did her parents. You can find deals on this one as Costco also sells this model. the model number may be different but they are all the same. You notice it be the dial. You can find the same design in a larger cubic feet, but the 1.6 is a great size. Panasonic® 1.6 cu.ft. Genius Microwave - Stainless Steel - Sears | Sears Canada

This is the exact one we got about six months ago and it is great. I am not a big user of the microwave, but I am learning how to use this model quite well.

Another vote for Panasonic. We went through a microwave almost ever 18 month until we were recommended Panasonic and now have not had a problem for years.

Another vote for the Panasonic ... I think it's one model up from the one posted previously ... stainless steel but it has a bunch of preset buttons on it as well -- that actually work incredibly well. It also has internal heat sensors that work well for the "auto" options with the buttons and has an inverter which works very well. It's in the Genius Prestige series.

Been using a mid-range Kitchen Aid unit for about 20 years now, and it still looks new and works perfectly. However if I had to buy a new one that's not high-bucks, I'd most likely go with Panasonic.
