Exclamation Twitter = Useless

It's been an interesting 18 hours.

The city where I live in Mexico, which four years ago was known as perhaps the most tranquil in the country, is fast on the track to becoming another Monterrey.

Last night, the narco bastards came to town. They hijacked city buses and civilian vehicles, blocking the main avenue in several locations along a four-km stretch.

In the ensuing shootouts, a Federal police colonel was killed, others injured, as well as passers-by. Today, the city is pretty freaked out.

Now... to Twitter. Totally-f-ing-useless. Why? Because stupid humans use it.

Every idiot and their brother is posting items tagged #Zacatecas, claiming there are new shootouts, that the government is declaring a curfew, others are disputing the claims of shootouts, etc. We're in a state of total confusion, and extremely stupid people are using Twitter to make things worse.

So as we read accounts via Twitter, blogs, Facebook, whatever... let's keep in mind that humans can be wonderful creatures. But far too many are lying, deceitful, ignorant and outright stupid creatures, too.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to crawl back into my hole...

Some English-language coverage from the Globe & Mail:

I don't understand people that still vacation in Mexico when so many other parts of the world are so much more appealing and safer. Sorry. I'd never go to Mexico with it in its current state - any part of it.
