How far did you go?

On our recent road trip, we'd been honking around the SE States for 2+ weeks and found ourselves in Memphis. It's 1,600 km back to Toronto and Mr & Mrs decide, what the hay... We're going for it in one roll. Two stops for gas, trail mix bars in the car, and 14 hrs later, we're pulling into our driveway. I drove, Wife slept and did the farm report. Cruised steady at 10mph above posted limits in an '06, 6 cyl Mazda6.

Makes me curious about other ehMacian single-day mileage achievements...

Cage-Victoria to Lethbridge, about 800 miles, around 13 hours including the ferry ride.

Motorcycle-Pennant, SK to Belle Fourche, South Dakota, about 600 miles, 13 hours, en route to Sturgis, SD. Long bloody ride, hungover, boring (and dry, it was a Sunday) going through North Dakota, included an hour at customs where they unceremoniously dumped my saddle bags on the ground and left me to clean it up & repack. I just wanted to get off the uncomfortable saddle of my old Sportster and drink beer. Partner's Virago broke down and I had to fix it with good old-fashioned Harley tools: a hammer and long handled screwdriver.

Easier to travel inna cage by myself, generally eat & bathroom break when I need fuel. More challenging with spice & littluns...

Dallas, TX to Denver, CO ............ hitch hiking with a friend and we got picked up by a retired Texas State Trooper ........... who drove, on average, 25 miles per hour over the speed limit all the way.

I usually drive alone, so I try not to get over tired, so I'm sure there are lots of people who will have much longer trips because they can swap off with other drivers. My typical 'one day drive' is from the coast (including a ferry ride) to Calgary - usually takes 12-14 hours, although sometimes I'll end up in Red Deer or Edmonton, which makes for a bit longer day.

However, I do much longer trips over the course of a week. One such trip was last summer where I went from the coast, over to Alberta, up to Fort McMurray, down to Saskatoon, down to Regina, then back to the coast via the Crowsnest Pass. Only about 800 km on average per day, but as it was a work related trip I was doing the driving in the mornings and evenings and doing work during the day.

Distance goes much quicker in the prairies. Too many mountains get in the way in BC.

Many years ago did the Calgary to Denver drive in one day, about 1100 miles. At the time Montana had no speed limits which helped greatly. Last time I took four days, got off the Interstate and really enjoyed the trip.

Perpetual kiddage has kept me from doing more than about 600 km a day. Great thread idea, though.

In my band days, we did Yellowknife to Peace River with only meal breaks. Ditto for Kelowna to Fort Nelson. Both in a school bus.

You guys have me totally beat. Longest that I ever went in a day was from Burlington to Kagawong (on Manatoulin Island). Thats about 600km and 8 hours of driving, rest stop in Barrie and Gas in French River. The way up was far better than the way down. After awhile its just more trees and more rocks. The construction along HWY 69 slowed us down too!

Most of my long hauls now are in our motor home. That is a huge advantage as I have a rest room and kitchen on board so the wife can make a meal as we go. Then we can eat when we stop to refuel or she can take the wheel for an hour while I take a break and eat. Add to that big comfy soft bucket seating, cruise control and 1,000 km range between fuel ups. A guy can go a long way without much hardship and if I do need a bathroom break, I simply pull over, stop for under five minutes and roll again.

Having travelled from sea to shining sea for a few decades I've lost count on some of the marathons.

But I think the last long one was 2 summers ago, I did a cross canada trek to enjoy some rock and debauchery with some fellow rockers and when we finished, last show in Edmonton, we packed up the vehicle at 3AM on a friday night, and drove straight to Toronto. Was a rather interesting drive, but was happy to arrive sunday around 8pm or something like that. We played that night too.

I think that's over 3000 kms in one shot.

Longest single day solo, 4 wheel trip would have been from Coburg ON to Myrtle Beach, about 1637km, I don't recall how long it took but according to Google it's about 17.5 hrs.

Single day family trip, swapping driving with the wife, Brantford to Belleair Beach near Tampa FL, about 2226km, we did it in aprox 21 hrs.

Single day, 2 wheel excursion 2up, Brantford to Lake Placid NY, about 630km, I think we took close to 10 hrs if I remember correctly. Always end up taking lots of breaks 2 up, it gets quite tiring.

Single day, 2 wheel solo from Saint John NB to Salem NH, about 669 km took about 8 hrs. Much easier traveling solo on a bike, only breaks I needed were when filling up fuel. I'm hoping to do an Iron Butt ride (1000 miles in 24 hrs) later this year, possibly to Myrtle Beach

Toronto to Virginia Beach, roughly 1,100 kms driven solo. Took just under 14 hours or so including stops for food, traffic around DC, etc. And then back again a few days later.

I don't think I'll do a drive that long solo again... eyes were getting tired, and tired eyes, plus night, plus an unfamiliar area is not a recipe for happiness.

At least on the way back I managed to get to the border just as night fell, so at least I was in somewhat familiar territory.

on 2 wheels I will do 1000kms no stops save for the 2 minutes it takes to fill the bike up with fuel. Longest in car was Moose Jaw to Kitchener non stop, was about 24 hours of driving and would not do it again.

I went from Halifax to Cornwall (ont) with nothing more than 2 energy drinks. I am caffeine sensitive so it hits me hard. I also fade crash hard from it. So, my wife had to drive after that.

Drove 37 hrs without sleep once. Stupid error with a delivery date on the freight broker's part. Went from Walcott Iowa to Vancouver in one stretch. That's about 2200mi or 3500km.

Couldn't get away with it today, but back then I was young and foolish.:D

Slept a solid 12 hrs afterwards in the consignee's parking lot...never again.

Another time drove from Dothan Alabama to Windsor non stop only to be shot down by customs because the stupid broker didn't have the textile permits for clearance.

I think I better clarify...

Those were the exceptions and not the rule, and accomplished without any illicit helpers... other than caffeine.

However, at one time I would routinely do three trips per week into the Port of New York/New Jersey and if I had a container going in and out of the same pier, I'd be out by 7:30AM and be back in Missississauga fueling up by 6PM.:D
