That's an excellent post. The response to AIDS patients is thoughtful and timely. I think it's too soon though for the listeria cartoon. I certainly wouldn't ban it or delete it, I just wouldn't caption it myself.
Think about it this way: do you think the families of the elderly individuals who recently died are thinking that they "need some humour" about listeria right now? How might they feel if they saw the cartoon? Maybe in a few days, or weeks, it would be different. It might just be too soon, and too close to home for some.
I'm not trying to "win" an argument just wanted show you that there's another side to your point of view. Naturally, what you choose to do with the information is optional.
BTW, my ego isn't too big to admit that I'm wrong or out of line, but I'm just having a hard time seeing it in this case. Maybe this forum has a different vibe that I haven't tuned into yet.
Well said, However. I wonder how many would expect that cartoon to have been run in any of Canada's largest daily newspapers at this point in time. I think we can all guess the answer to that one.
I was at Subway yesterday and they had a sign on their door assuring people their meat wasn't part of the recall. While I was eating someone came in and asked for the "Maple Leaf Cold Cut Special" I burst out laughing. Unfortunately the worker didn't get and he had to explain himself, which pretty much killed the joke. But the moral of the story, get a sense of humor, life's too short.

Every comedian is going to experience hecklers, it looks like this heckler effectively disrupted the "show" enough to effectively shut it down.
However may say that there were no intentions to "ban" the thread but it sure was successfully high jacked. Some people need to learn when to click on the "Ignore" button.

I did. I questioned to myself as to whether it was in good taste, but hey live and let live. I didn't see the point, in making a point of it and trying to take a self righteous high ground on something as innocuous as a cartoon posted to an "Everything Else" sub forum of a Mac forum.
I don't see it that way myself. It strikes me that calling these mild protests self-righteous or an attempt to attain the moral high ground is itself a heavy-handed depiction of events. Tomaytoes and tomahtoes, perhaps.
I wonder if there is someone out there who was actually affected on a personal level by someone's passing due to the incident that may have laughed at my cartoon?
Concerning morals, what would be the verdict of voicing the opinion that it's wrong to be making light of the Maple Leaf/listeria incident even if there are victims who might be looking to do just that? Morally good because presumably they know better for everyone else or morally bad because they are possibly further dampening the spirits of those affected?
