Bass Ackwards Governments FTW!

Scotsman.com News - Latest News - Court orders Gere's arrest for kiss

Quote:
An Indian court ordered the arrest of Hollywood star Richard Gere on Thursday for kissing Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty at an AIDS campaign event this month saying it was an obscene act committed in public.
Somebody should let India know it's the 21st century.

I'm surprised they haven't issued a warrant for David Hasselhoff for making Baywatch the number one watched show worldwide.

I mean it's not like he stuck his tongue down her throat and groped her.... did he?

I saw a clip of it. She may have been able to charge him under many country's laws, but general claims of "obscenity" are quite socially restrictive. Still, it's not his country so he should be a little more careful. "I can do this where I come from" is not a strong defence.

"State Trooper, I didn't know it was illegal to drive in your state while talking on my cell phone. Please don't give me a ticket. Wah, wah, wah."

Really, read up, folks.

Gere isn't being charged by the government, he's being charged by a publicity-seeker who convinced a minor official to go after him.

It happens here all the time as well, private citizens can convince lesser-abled judges to lay private complaints against celebrities.

Most people in India will view the publicity-seeker with the same disdain we do. As well as the person who got him charged...

The government is still responsible for the laws for which people can be arrested and charged with. Still, people do need to be careful what laws they can potentially break while in foreign countries.

And I agree, The Mothman Prophecies does warrant some legal action.
