Predictions for the year 2000

Found this amusing. Some surprisingly close. Others hilariously off.

This one of the former

American audiences in their theatres will view upon huge curtains before them the coronations of kings in Europe or the progress of battles in the Orient. The instrument bringing these distant scenes to the very doors of people will be connected with a giant telephone apparatus transmitting each incidental sound in its appropriate place. Thus the guns of a distant battle will be heard to boom when seen to blaze, and thus the lips of a remote actor or singer will be heard to utter words or music when seen to move.

while they got this one wrong in some respects - "texting" could be considered the "condensing" of English tho that was pretty much post 2000. Still not a bad call.

Quite fascinating, MacDoc. I shall make no predictions for the 22nd century. I shall express a hope -- that the world is still here on Jan. 1st, 2100. We shall see. Paix, mon ami.

Well there is that aspect....I'm quite certain the "world" will be here.

State of civilization???....another issue entirely.

But seriously, in 100 years, we'll all be recovering from the nuclear fallout of WW3 or global warming when 9/10th of the human population is wiped out. One or the other, either way, things don't look too rosy for mankind.
