A University to Watch

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servl.../National/home

.......................
Instead of enrolling in semesters and spending their days rotating through standard classes, Quest students will focus for weeks at a time on only one topic, said Dr. Strangway. One such course will be named salmon, he said, and it will include multidisciplinary instruction in the humanities and sciences, field trips to local waterways and hands-on laboratory work.
.......................

A very different university and quite expensive (cost recovery). Worth watching how this works out, success or not.

This may be new to a university, but I have been teaching my teachers-in-training undergrad students how to create and implement interrelated thematic units, which integrate expressive/receptive language with the other content areas, since I first came to MUN back in 1977. Still, at a university level this is a unique concept.

I can't access the story. Do you know if they are refering to David Strangway? He used to be the President of UBC I believe.

That's him. I'm not sure why the link wouldn't work (it works for me) because it wasn't lock content. Maybe the scheme already failed.
