I was rather amused by our Justice Minister's views on crime.
Nice to see our government trying to pump up us with fear... and the solutions well...

The federal Justice Minister portrayed Vancouver yesterday as a city with a serious crime problem because of lenient judges.
The former Manitoba attorney-general also suggested that individuals who rob a bank in his home province would likely flee to this region to "get house arrest" in British Columbia.
Mr. Toews also warned that organized-crime groups are joining forces with terrorists, although he did not provide any specific information.
Mr. Toews declined to answer yesterday how public safety would be improved by requiring offenders who might normally receive a conditional sentence to be held in custody in provincial jails for terms of less than two years.
He also disputed statistical data that the crime rate is steadily declining in Canada.
Statistics released by the Vancouver Police Department, which has had a nearly 15-per-cent budget increase in the past three years, indicate that violent crime is not rising.
I've seen statistics manipulated before--but I don't see the statistics in the artice so I can't tell. I have noticed that, while many U.S. cities are seeing a reduction in crime rates, the rates in Canadian cities are rising somewhat.
"Rising somewhat" sounds loosey-goosey, Macfury. I'd ask you for stats to back that rather tentative statement up, but then we'd still be stuck in the mire of statistics.
Max: Yeah, it is loosey goosey. When I say "I heard that" it usually means I heard someone say it on a radio program while I was driving--otherwise I provide the source!

And there is a difference between when you say it and the Minister of Justice does....
