Omg. What should I do? Unhatched eggs...

... were found on my window sill (see attached file). I knew that pigeons were using it as a kind of shelter, but I had no idea that this was taking place as I had these very light blinds that i bothered NOT pulling up all winter (light shines right thru) + the nest was behind some books on my shelf.

I guess I won't be opening this window anytime soon. This might make for a great photo op.

Anyone with insight/been in these shoes??

H!

1. Pull the shade back since the original environment was palatable for the pigeons.

2. Take occasional photos after birdies hatch.

3. Post here.

I agree. Enjoy the show!

When the babies have grown up and flown away, get rid of the nest, clean up the window, and get a new screen! Otherwise, they'll probably come back again and do the same thing.

That was done asap. Did not want to disrupt the 'ecosystem'.

Will take a 2-3 looks a week to chart some progress. Could be cool!

Set up an Ohenri-Cam, and show the world. It might not draw as much attention as the bald eagle, but you will be doing your part to save the ecology of YYZ-Land.

Open another bottle of the Folonari Pinot Grigio in the picture, sit back and enjoy the show.

My parents ended up with the same situation out in Oshawa...

http://inhouseproductions.on.ca/andrew/babyrobins.jpg

baby robins nested atop the new laundy line pole my dad installed last year

We didn't get birds at our house this spring, it was squirrels in the shed. I tossed an old box near the shed, heard a scratchin' opened doors only to have a squirrel race around the back wall, side wall on my left and jump right across in front of my face [I saw his undercarriage] and fly out the door over my right shoulder. I would prefer birds.

Sure they're cute when they're babies .....but...

Be ready for noise and stink.

The smell of wet feathers and guano after a warm rain will linger in your memory for years.

Throw away the alarm clock, the early morning feedings will wake you with a cheerful serenade

You said you have pigeons?, I hope your experience won't be as bad as mine.

We had some starlings nest in my attic space a few years ago.

The parents crawled into the bathroom exhaust tubing in the attic, punched a hole through a joint in the solid aluminum vent and set up a nest in the blown pink fiberglass insulation.
We had no idea they were there until we heard the nestlings chirping away in the bathroom vent. The cats didn't know what was going on!
It wasn't too bad until it rained and the smell would waft its way down into the house. ugh!

We left them in peace until they flew away.

I had to dig through 2 feet of fiberglass to get to the nest and I was amazed at the comfortable little home they set up.

I put a ball of chicken wire in the vent entrance to block them from coming next year. Sure enough, next spring there were some angry starlings trying to renew their quest for the nest.
