Just picked up a Fuji Finepix S3100 for a hundred bucks at Shoppers Drug Mart (thank you optimum points!).

It usese 'AA' bateries which i've already used up almost. So which batteries are better? NIMH or Lithium? What's the advantages to each one?

NiMH are rechargeable. Lithium AAs are not
The advantage of Lithiums is that you can have them hanging around for weeks or months, and then slap-em in and go.

NiMH rechargeable lose their charge as they sit unused, so you really have to charge them fresh the day or so before you want to use them, so it takes some prior planning. Rechargeables will be much less expensive in the long term, and are more environmentally responsible.


Lithium AA != Lithium Ion rechargeable

You already know this of course (and we're on a 20x points period now for certain categories, so I experience this also), but it really cost you more than $100.

You can get good deals sometimes on the multiple packs of batteries too so although less environmentally friendly, you can use a slew of regular batteries for a similar cost in the long run and no need to worry about recharging.

of course, but my wife works for Shoppers and gets a hefty discount so we go to the locations that sell food as well, actually we buy pretty much everything but produce/clothing from Shoppers, so the points add up pretty quick!

As for the regular batteries, I took about 25 pics (about 12 using the flash) since we got the camera on Saturday and the low batt symbol is already flashing! So I'm thinking NiMH will be the best way to go.

Look for the ones with the highest mAh rating... higher capacity = longer batter life, more pics!
