The ISP may not like it but it's not a problem if everyone agrees to it. Be careful with sensitive information though. Be sure that sites are secure and that only "safe" info is transmitted in insecure ways (email, etc.). I'm not saying not to trust your neighbor, but if you are using his service, who else might be?

Just do it, I did 3 houses down on my inlaws street and set them up with static IP's and a G-wireless connection on Rogers Extreme and they haven't complained yet about the speeds. If you can stick it to Robers I say go for it.
Why hasn't this thread been shut down? Is it ok for someone to share his Internet service with half of Toronto but it's not ok for someone to share out a movie or music?
Um, what? That comparison doesn't make any sense. I pay for my internet connection. What I then do with it, provided it doesn't violate the terms of my agreement, is my own business. My agreement doesn't say anything about sharing. Music or movies are covered by copyright. There is no similarity at all.

it's the sharing of costs (aka "reselling") of internet serivces that worry me
sort of like promoting bootlegging of CDs
sharing one's connection is in a very grey area, but re-selling it to someone NOT in your residence, would in my opinion, violate one's TOS
while i, as opposed to IronMac, won't morally condemm this practice; it does sound that in a way you are sticking it to the telcoms. I would read the whole contract to be sure whether is ok or not, legally speaking.
Having said that, and if you decide to go ahead with this, you have to mind the details with your neighbour (is there a quota, are there kids in the house downloading lots of crap, is the granny from across the street deep into downloading promn via your account, etc etc
Trust me on this, a guy in the building is doing time because of me, so don't say i did not warn you.
