Brian Mulroney and Karlheinz Schreiber

Anyone watch "The Fifth Estate" last night on CBC? In that Mulroney sued for libel, and under oath, denied any dealings with Schreiber, and subsequently received a government apology and a $2 million settlement, if the Harper government opens up this issue, and Mulroney is found guilty of perjury, what should be done with the money?

I say, send it back to the Canadian people. Let's see, that comes to about 53 cents per Canadian, and the cost of a stamp is 51 cents, and the cost of the envelopes and check is .................... On second thought, use it to pay down the national debt.

If it turned out Mulroney lied, we should not only get the money back, but sue him. It will be good to have a Conservative scandal to go with the new government, though. Just for a change of scenery .
Since he's in large part responsible for the deficit, it is only fitting that money from him go there. Works for me.

He did lie.
What surprised me was how much Mulroney's PR flunky about the deal during an "off-the-record" phone call. The "off-the-record" became public when the PR flunky decided to leak the conversation a newspaper.
Mulroney said that money received for advice on a pasta business - I like how Schreiber said it was the most expensive brochure he paid for.
So the money that Mulroney received came from an account funded by bribe money and there was no work done for it - nothing crooked here....

"It's beginning to look a lot like scandal...." (sung to the tune of "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas)

perhaps Harpo will use the Mulroney Commission to throw light off his refusal to meet with the Grewal enquiry and his "renting" of former Liberal MP Emerson

how long's Harpo been PM? Not even a week?

AS, I fear you are correct. It shall be overshadowed by the guidelines/legislation re a new Federal Accountability Act to police ethics among politicians on Parliament Hill. This will probably include those involved in the sponsorship scandal, although I am still betting that not a single person involved in this scandal will receive anything harsher than a suspended sentence, and not one dime of the millions stolen will ever be reclaimed.

Unless Mulroney put this $300,000 on the wrong line on his tax form, he will receive nothing more than bad press on this matter. Is his $2 million similar to a Lotto-649 win in which you pay no taxes on the sudden windfall?

Luckily, the way that MacNutt came down hard on both King Jean C, and Paul Martin, I think Mulroney is in for a broadside from the "Sage from Saltspring". We shall see.

I think people need to remember that the RCMP are in charge of investigating crimes, not the Prime Minister.

If Mulroney did anything wrong, they will look into it. If he received money and didn't report it as income, Revenue Canada will have something to say.

I still have faith in those two institutions.

I don't think Harper should be expected to start up a new inquiry.

Speaking of the RCMP looking into crimes, what has become of the Interest Trust scandal? Has the SEC acted upon this request to investigate?

Vandave, lying under oath and all the other BS that BM pulled will not be looked into. It's a scandal with a coverup.
