Had a phone call from one of the political parties at nine pm. I told the caller that it was rude to be calling people so late. Am I being unreasonable?
My friends and family don't phone after 7:30 pm or so unless it's an emergency.

Well, my friends and family phone until about midnight.
But they also know I'm typically awake and available then.
And I don't call people then unless I *know* they are usually up. Though in my ex's family, calls up to 10 pm are fine, afterwards are considered emergencies.
Ena, we must have gotten the same phone call.................but at 1030PM here in St.John's, which is 9PM in TO.

No, you are not being unreasonable.
Furthermore, political parties should not be calling after 8:00pm....
I love evening calls, It makes for some added entertainment.
Don't you like to play along with telemarketers?
It's so much fun to see them get all wound up with the potential sale to you
and then give them the slow anti climax of the put down.
I mean, It's not like I'm calling them to give them phone abuse,
They are calling me, Disturbing my work, Why shouldn't I have some fun with them.
A political party would be even more fun to play with on the phone,
Wished they'd call me up, I'd give them a few words.

Any time is a bad time for an unsolicited call, with weekends and holidays being worst. A political call at 9 pm is over the line, I think, though not by much -- perhaps they should be required to stop at 8 pm, which I believe is the deadline for commercial solicitations.
(To clarify, I hate unsolicited calls but do believe political ones are the least noxious and should be met with the most leniency by both citizens and regulators.)

I still get a laugh out of the Rogers telemarketter that didn't realize I was already one of their customers and was trying to sell me their services - she had my old address and as soon as she pulled up my new one she had the right info.
But generally, I hate phone calls after 8:00, unless they are from someone I know which 80% of the time they're not. Phoning after 9:00 or 10:00 is just plain rude.
