Trading Post/Classified Safety

caveat venditor

This is getting pretty serious. I put up a few items for sale, and I have received some emails, some of which left me doing the famous one eyebrow-Spock look. I have not oft sold goods before, so outside of ca$h (which I'm even wary about now too), which are the nearly fail safe transaction methods??

I have a Paypal linked to a card with great coverage/benefits. How is Bidpay? Looking for recommendations ultimately. There is unfortunately lots of fraud circulating, and I am a little concerned.

Thanks in advance for the input.

H!

Bidpay is just another name for Western Union, so the general consensus is to avoid it unless you trust the person you're dealing with.

The majority of the scammers out there are easy to pick up due to their very broken english grammar and insistance on using things like Bidpay or money orders.

Right.

But what are safeguards?? There are fake MOs, fake cash, fake $$ transfers... what is real??

I'm thinking of meeting ppl @ the bank and getting cash that I can verify on the spot. [sigh]

Just ignore those e-mails with someone wanting to to by Bidpay as you seen in my post. Most of them are all bad news!

Really?? So, would that qualify as the safest? Say like an email $$ transfer?

I recently did an email money transfer (my first) with MacDoc. It worked out ok. Then again that was a real business... in Canada. I don't think I would sell or buy from some who read a classified ad on ehmac without them being a contributing member of the forums and have a number of posts under their belt.

Man...

I find it funny that all these 'trades' have to be done in lightning speeds... Like, I need this NOW, pls get back to me. What happened to old fashion queries?? I get the impression that I was an ideal buyer: total clarity. Some of these queries I tell you... Oh well.

Your right to be skeptical. The best advice is to watch the grammar, wait till money is transfered to your account, and finally to only deal with members with many posts under their belt.

I think the days of trusting the ehMac classifieds are over. As EhMac has grown in popularity, it's attracted more scam artists.

i recently sold my powerbook and the buyer sent money directly to my account via a bank transfer
acutally it was a credit union to credit union x-fer

he brought cash to a credit union armed with a form my credit union emailed me and the cash he had was x-ferred within 24 hours directly to my bank acct.

i spoke at length with my credit union about this they said this was the absolute safest way to move money around

once it arrived into my acct. there was no way for anyone to touch it except me

i hope that clears things up

no bidpay or paypal or emai pay or whatever
just good old fashioned financial institution to financial institution
