Xbox 360 = Nothing Special

I was at the mall today (Markville) and it just so happened that Xbox was there doing a promo of the 360. They had two of the consoles hooked up to some huge plasma screens with a third on a normalish one. They all had wireless controllers and I was able to play Project Gotham Racing 3 and NHL 2K6....and I wasn't impressed. Considering that this thing is going for well over $500, not including any games, I thought there would be more to it. The games didn't look any better than the current Xbox, and the controller seems poorly designed (again). The battery pack on the back of the controller leaves no room to put your fingers, while the shoulder buttons were out of the way to hit. The only good part was that the actual console looked really nice, all chromy and white. Needless to say,I'll wait for this thing to be in the $250-$300, with some games included, range before I even consider buying

i saw call of duty playing on an xbox 360 at the mall. graphics were a little better than current xbox but really not what one would think of as next generation. controllers were awkward, i agree.

there seemed to be an awful lot of aliasing, for some reason. perhaps it was the HD lcd it was hooked up too, but i doubt it.

Yeah, the first crop of games for the 360 aren't going to look any better than current generation games. However, once developers really learn how to take advantage of the new hardware the games should start looking much better.

Personally, I'm also going to wait until this thing drops down to sub $300 range WITH the hard drive. Also, I'll wait until they include the HD-DVD drive. Microsoft is making a grievous error crippling the first-run 360's by not including the hard drive (on all models) and not including the HD-DVD drive. I know its too early for them to have HD-DVD drives, but in Microsoft's haste to rush the 360 to market this kind of thing will come back to bite them in the ass. Hopefully Sony will learn from this and not do the same thing.

xBox360 Whats the big deal?

I'm really not getting the hype about this gaming system, does it do something more than play games/DVD's? and for $900.00 (with controller and 4 games) at BestBuy I just really REALLY don't get it!

Please esplain

kevs thread has been merged into this existing one.

The XBox 360 can play games, DVDs, and also acts like a media centre. That it's brand new, it's the next generation and because of that carries a pretty hefty price tag just like how the XBox did when it first launched in 2001.

A $1034 (with taxes) gaming console? Have we gone past the reality distortion field of gaming consoles? Wow!

Where are all the but you can buy a PC blah blah blah or an iBook for that price comments in this thread?

As a gamer, I still don't see the fuss about the Xbox or now the Xbox 360. The only thing I like about the XBox was that it came with a HD.

I will be waiting to see where Sony prices its PS3, I hope it isn't anywhere near the $1000 price tag like the Xbox 360. I have always enjoyed playing PS1, PS2 games and I probably will enjoy playing PS3 games.

In my opinion, I could never buy a gaming console at $1034.00, that to me is no longer a gaming console and is a lot closer to a PC.

So who here is going to jump out and buy one? How many of you will be paying over $1000 for the next generation Microsoft gaming console?

I won't be getting one. I don't like to blow things up and I hate sports games. I can't see my self with a PS3 for the same reason. So what does thet leave me....yep good old nintendo.

I thought they were $499? Still too expensive in my books.
