• Updated • ehMax's U2 Concert Footage!
Clip 1 - Highlights of U2 in Toronto - Vertigo tour
Clip 2 - Raw footage of U2 in Toronto As most of you know, I'm probably one of the world's biggest U2 fans!!!! I just had thee best week of my life last week. I got to see two U2 concerts at the ACC in Toronto, and... many of the very, very fine folks at ehMac.ca got together and got me a U2 iPod!!!! (I still haven't really opened it yet, I'm waiting for my very cool U2 iPod Case to be arriving any day now with much thanks for the help in locating to Derrick from ehMac!) So yeah, the concerts were freakin awesome!!! Both times, I was in the front rows! The way the stage is setup, is there is a front section right by the stage that fans call the bomb shelter. It fits about 200 people. Bono and band members can walk right around the bomb shelter getting really close to fans on the floor. There is a lottery system to get general admission holders into the bomb shelter. So, if one is lucky enough to get in the bomb shelter, you can get front row to the stage. Even if you don't make it in though, you can get front row to the bomb shelter. So... on Monday, September 12th, after waiting in line for 18 hours, I got in but didn't win the lottery for the bomb shelter. But, I was front row outside it! Was a great concert. On Saturday, September 17th, I won the lottery, so Mrs. ehMax and I got in the very front row, about 5 feet from The Edge and Bono the majority of the night. It was really, REALLY freakin awesome!! Saturday, there were a couple of guests like Daniel Lanois and Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam joined in for a song. On Monday, I almost got to meet Bono outside the ACC. (Bono and the boys regularly make lots of time for the fans and sign autographs). On Saturday, I tried pretty hard to get an autograph, but they had to drive by and get in the ACC to film for what I hope will be some DVD footage. So anyways, I took my camera in (Bono and the boys don't care if you take pictures or little recordings for personal use), and got quite a few good clips. I put them together in iMovie and.. Made this little U2 fan movie I got quite a few other pictures I will post later and a few other neat stories to tell, but should get to bed. A week I will never forget.

Great footage ... I am very jealous
... I have seen U2 here in Edmonton several years ago ... nosebleed seats ... an awesome show nonetheless.I remember back in the late 80's in my second year of university ... U2 was playing in Vancouver and I just couldn't come up with the $$$ at the time to go (from Red Deer). The most frustrating part was that one of the girls who lived in the apartment below was able to go for free since she was dating a record store manager at the time ... the kicker was that she wasn't even a big fan ... my reason for mentioning this story is that it is truly wonderful to see a die-hard fan have the opportunity to see his favorite band. As a longtime fan ... I even have a couple of the videos (Under A Blood Red Sky and Unforgettable Fire) on LaserDisc ... Again ... congratulations on the concerts ... and enjoy your case once it arrives. |

Nicely done ehMax, I really enjoyed that, and can totally relate to the good time you had.
Thanks!

Did they let you bring in a camera?
I'm jealous but I thought they would gang tackle you if you recorded them.

Very cool! I am also surprised that they let you take photos--stills or movies. Bono may not mind but the IATSE dudes would probably freak all over your head! Maybe Bono pays them off or something.
I once wanted to experiment with my new SLR at Hamilton Place where I play all the time. It was on a break between services in the hall and I was just taking pictures of instruments and stuff. One of the lighting guys approached me and very kindly told me that I wasn't allowed to do that. He was very nice about it and he was also an am photograhper so he just "pretended" that he didn't see me. I am sure many different halls have different policies enforced to varying degrees but I do know that the IATSE guys are notoriously sticky about stuff like that. |

From what I understand, U2 specifically tell the facilities that they allow point and shoot digital / camera phones etc.. Just no SLR's.
As long as its for personal use, they don't freak out. Same thing for bootlegs. They turn a blind eye to fans swiping them. Just don't get caught trying to sell them. I'm REALLY hoping U2 releases recording of their shows on iTMS. I'd easily buy a high quality recording for $10-$20. Free would be cool, like Pearl Jam did, but I wouldn't even blink at $10. |

Fun footage! And thanks for panning around a few times and letting us see the set up.

Nicely.
I lucked into an autograph at Worcester Centrum back in '86, I think. Then that demin jacket ended up in the laundry (3rd party error) My niece has ducats to at least 1 of the Boston shows coming up. I just sent her the link. Don't think her home 56k access will do it justice. But there are hi-speed machines in the libraries around here, so where there's a will. Cheers!

I posted another movie with just some of the raw footage. The audio is crap, but you can hear some of the different songs.
My favourite has got to be The Edge playing the intro notes to Sunday Bloody Sunday, with the spotlight on him and the smoke swirling in the background.
