Are you pro/con beauty pageants? (Miss Universe Banned from Toronto City Hall)

The world has gone mad. Or at least our Toronto bureaucrats have.

I hope some city councillor has the balls to do something about this law. It's a good concept in principle (I don't think we need a commercial porn venture using municipal land), but this law is too vague to be applied appropriately.

Major Miller demonstrated some class and publicly apologized. Good going, Dave. It's rare for a politician to a) recognize an absurd injustice, and b) accept responsibility for it, even though c) he didn't directly cause it.

When you're in charge, everything is your fault. Hopefully our provincial and federal leaders can develop such admirable statesmanship.

I don't know how you confused Mayor Mel with Barbara Hall. One of them has t*ts and the other is a t*t.

Let's make this the pageant thread...

1. Beauty pageants are as normal as modelling. More normal, perhaps, because a woman can pursue a normal career and still enter a beauty pageant.

2. Opponents of pageants have their heads filled with "feminist" nonsense, like "pageants objectify women," or "glamourize a certain type of body image, to the detriment of other body types."

There you go I stand corrected......

I don't see a lot wrong with celebrating human beauty, or strength or skill and I suspect it has little impact on the perception of women in Canada at least.
Hopefully the fairer sex ;) is past that.

I suspect many "beautiful" girls may have as many hassles with it as it benefits.

Question of balance and benefit to the girls versus any downsides.

I'd say a parent can be a SOB pushing hockey or beauty pageants or the experiences in either can be positive for both.

Older girls/women can make up their own mind..if it turns their crank......go for it.
Ya got it, why not flaunt it....and perhaps get nicely compensated.

It was the previous mayor, June Rowlands, that banned the Barenaked Ladies. It was also the tight-ass Toronto Police that wanted to shut down Madonna's True or Dare Tour due to the 'simulated sex acts' performed on stage.

You're right, I'm wrong. And I accused MacDoc of being wrong.

We need a smilie with a dunce cap.
