I've just answered my third phone call of the day with no one on the other end and this has been going on for weeks! Anyone else getting these calls where no one answers??? Even better...anyone know what these calls are?!
Wow. And I thought I was the only one.. 1-3 dead phone calls during the day to my place. Thankfully, I'm not home during the day usually to put up with them, but friends I've had stay here during the day said they've gotten them. I got a couple myself personally as well.

Well, I'm glad that I'm not the only one then! When I find out who is making these phone calls...look out!!!
I've just called Bell and they said that I should call the "business office" in regards to these unwanted phone calls. The number for that here in Toronto is 310-2355 (no area code...just dial it).
Could be automatic dialers from telemarketers...or could be your ex-boss.

I've received those "dead" calls too - a few times I've stayed on the receiver long enough for whoever-it-is at the other end to pick up and start talking. Most of the calls have turned out to be telemarketing (I respond to these by slamming down the receiver in the caller's ear). A couple of times though, the dead call eventually turned out to be a recorded message from Hydro-Québec, warning that they're turning off the power in our neighbourhood for X hours on X date for network maintenance. Whatever happened to leaving those cards in our mailboxes?
Definitely telemarketers, they do the auto-dial thing and aren't always ready to answer if the other end picks up. It got so bad last year, from mostly one particular number, that I contacted Telus. They traced it to a different carrier and couldn't tell us who it was, but... One day they did answer. Turned out it was WAVAW (Women Against Violence Against Women). I told them about all the dead calls, and politely asked to be taken off their list. I thought it was over.
But over the following year the calls continued and my wife & I both requested again and again to be taken off their list. I was even hung up on, and once had to deal with a very rude supervisor that I'd demanded to talk to. The calls continued. Finally my wife snapped and told them exactly what she thought of their marketing methods. After more than a year of harassment, they finally stopped calling.
Frustration defined!
