The debate did not immediately change many minds, ABC said, saying Bush's support was 50 percent among viewers before the debate and 51 percent after it; Kerry's support was 46 percent before, 47 percent after. Independent candidate Ralph Nader had 1 percent before and less than that after.
I agree that there was no KO, but Kerry came across quite presidential. Bush was.........well, Bush was Bush. He forgot his script and was left fumbling on stage like an actor who has forgotten his lines. Hopefully, the American people saw all of this and will realize that there is more to Kerry than meets the eye, and far less of Bush than we have been lead to believe is there within the whole person. I have already sent in my absentee ballot with a vote for Kerry, but now I feel that there is a chance that this vote will really count if Kerry can gain some momentum in the last weeks of the campaign. We shall see....

Bush made a better connection. he looked at the camera while speaking, whereas Kerry looked at the moderator the entire time. Sounds silly, but this kind of thing can have an impact.
Kerry needs to learn to get more concise with some of his points, too. When they ask him about Iraq, he should just say something along the lines of:
"Knowing what I know now I believe that the decision to go to war was the wrong decision, but we are at war now and I will support and defend our mission until it is done."
That way he's stating both but not flip flopping.

PB, I agree that Bush looked directly at the camera far more than Kerry, and that Kerry does need to be succint in his delivery. Still, Bush spoke directly to the American people.......and said little of substance. This only highlighted his flustering when he got sidetracked.

i felt uncomfortable watching bush stammering, trying to form a thought. any time he had to go off scripted responses he was revealed to be the moron he is. i can't believe anyone would think this debate was close.
"Knowing what I know now I believe that the decision to go to war was the wrong decision, but we are at war now and I will support and defend our mission until it is done."
i'm pretty sure he did say that, posterboy. towards the very end of the debate.
When you get past the me-isms and I-isms their policies were remarkably similar. I think Kerry held up better than Bush. Bush looked extremely petulant and kept reiterating the "hard work" line to the point of making it meaningless. I found it funny how Bush intermixed Ossama and Saddam on a question, but Kerry caught him at it and making Bush yell out "I know, I know it was Ossama"...
