Ohhh I was answering the 'when should top speed should be reached' portion of your question. At '300m or 400m? answer: as soon as possible.

Actually the basic idea is that simple: accelerate as quickly as possible to top speed. I didn't say anything about gearing but the difficult part is, like you said, in setting up the gearing and balancing everything out.

GT2 eh? What car are you working on right now? I love the sheer number of cars in GT2, which is why i liked it more than GT3. Also, I found the sense of speed to better in GT1 & 2 than in 3.

Project Gotham 2 is 'arcady' but has the damage detail/physics element that some of us are looking for. I think that PG2 awards clean driving as well, so hitting walls and other cars for brakes is not good. I bet the drifting bit can be turned off as an option.

as i said, i've got 75 cars in gt2, but i do most of my driving in these favorites:

subaru 22b sti
ruf turbo-r
lotus elise 190
toyota celica mechanical version
audi tt lm

i do think drifting is fun, but only for a short while. i need real racing to keep me interested.

Here I was, all excited and everything...

....Can you imagine it?!? A DRAG RACING thread here at ehmac?

One that I had NOT Started, BTW!

But, after reading the whole thing I realise that we are discussing virtual drag racing. Not the real thing.

Too bad. You have no idea how exciting it is to be right next to a firebreathing Nitro fueled motor as it shakes the very ground beneath your feet.

Unless you've been there. Perhaps enough game time might make a few of you want to go and check it out and see what all the commotion is about.

This would be a good thing. (you WILL enjoy. Promise.)

Well mister man, I have indeed been beside a 1400+HP Keith Black Hemi as it expoldes to life, I've breathed in the wonderful vapour that nirto gives off. There is no feeling like every bone in your body rattling and shaking.

One of the first cars I drove was a Swinger with a blown 426. All street as well. There is nothing like it, I didn't get to go far, like a 100 ft or so, my uncle was crazy not stupid, but what trip. I've been a lowend torque junkie since.

Thumbs up

That does it. Now there is absolutely NO question that we are actually related, Gretchen.

A Hemi Dart is a very rare bird. If it came from the factory that way (it wouldn't have had a blower when new) then it is one of about 69 ever built.

None were ever meant for street use. And that fact was stated quite clearly on the window sticker.

And that Keith Black Top Fuel Hemi that you stood beside while it was running must have been some years back. They're churning out an eyeball-melting six THOUSAND horsepower, these days.

Which is hard to even imagine, when you stop and think about it.

Also hard to imagine for the uninitiated is exactly what you've mentioned...the heady Nitro fumes, and the feel of the ground actually shaking while the monster is running.

The fire coming out of the zoomie pipes is also rather overwhelming. Especially if you are a photographer standing next to the beast when it launches. (Don't wear synthetics. They melt. Trust me on this.)

Nothing...and I mean NOTHING in this world...runs like a Nitro motor!

Ya gotta SEE and FEEL it to BELIEVE it!

I don't know about drag racing, but I do know about heavy truck specing. I can't remember the formula for top speed but I do remember which values were needed:

top engine RPM (1850, 1950, 2100)
final transmission ratio (overdrive 0.xx or direct 1:1)
rear end ratio (3.73. 3.90, 4.11)
revolutions/mile of your wheels based on size (22.5" or 24.5")

If I get a change, I'll look for it.

Yep it was something like 1979 or something. Back then that was still pretty good.

The blower was a 'breadbox' 6/71. I personally love those things the noise that comes from them is great. And they were so easy to get, he had a buddy that ran a truck repair place so there's a constant source.

I loved that car, looking back on it any car that comes from the factory with 'torque chains' bolted to the motor has gotta be a ride.

Mmmmm nitro fumes, ya the first time was definately a buzz. Ya the engines don't so much 'run' as they just mechanically manage a series of nulcear explosions in an effort to tear large chunks of asphalt*out of the ground.

My all time 'fav' car has to be the 'Dodge Charger Rt-se 440 6-Pack!!!.....I just love those cars.

What year?

Personally, I love the Charger, but a 70 Cuda with either a Hemi or a 440 six pack with a shaker hood would do it for me

Chevy = A blown [over driven & fully 'decked' out] RAT powered '55' . Tubbed, shortened, 456 gears, ladder bars, MT 'Marshmallows', straight axel, Muncie M22, B&M V/G and an unlimited credit AVgas card!

That is 'my' Chevy endorsement. That would be the one I'd drive....well, pilot.

Cool

Excellent stuff!

I'm a Chevy guy all the way....but serious Mopars have a really special place in my heart. The word
"Hemi" makes my knees weak. And for good reason...I've seen what a Hemi can do, back in my streetracing days. A living legend, no question about it.

And I would kill to have a late sixties Charger with ANY big block in it...or an early seventies Chalenger/Cuda with a 340 or a 440 or...dare I say it....a HEMI!

Especially if it had a four speed with the famous Pistolgrip shifter...and a shaker hood...and a set of superstock springs, and a pinion snubber...and...and...and...

WHOOPS! I gotta GO now! The "CHEVY RULES!" T-shirt I'm wearing just caught fire!

( QUICK GERRY....where'd you put that chrome fire extinguisher??? YIKES!!)
