In the Conan show, french street signs were changed to English, bearing names like Celine Dion Sucks Street, Eat Me Frenchy Street, and Quebecqueer Street.

"You can tell you're French," the puppet said to one person. "I can smell your crotch from here."

I posted this earlier today in the other Conan thread, but it bears repeating here:

Last night I watched his Wednesday show, and then the Thursday show later on. (The wonders of time zone hopping on satellite.)

I enjoyed the Wednesday thing with Michael J. Fox.

The Thursday effort was sadly lacking though.

Matter of fact the five minute segment by some foul mouthed dog puppet insulting residents of Quebec City was perhaps the most disgusting ill-fated attempt at humour I have ever had the displeasure to witness. It was bad enough to make fun of French speaking Canadians, but it was downright disgusting to call them obnoxious and telling them they had smelly crotches. It was vile and a slap in the face of all Canadians. O'Brien is a moron.

Even his interview with Adam Sandler was pathetic, given all they could discuss was Sandler masterbating and copping a feel while his wife was asleep.

It was a sad and disgusting reflection of O'Brien's intellect and he should be banned from Canada in future.

He made Don Cherry look tame by comparison.

thanks SINC, as I have rabbit ear technology for TV land, I get but a few channels of stupidity.

The sock puppet must be borrowed from the truly retarded "Ed the Sock" on CityTV here in the GTA whose audience consists of drunken shitfaced teens and "adults" looking to score on them.

Can someone post the writing credits off the Conan show?

Laughed my @ss off at the Conan show last night.

Celine Dion Sucks street.

Triumph: Are you a seperatist?

French Canadian: Yes, 100%!

Triumph: Shhhh... listen carefully.... (silence) It's the shound of nobody giving a $h!†.

It's called silly, juvenille humour, and it's all in good fun. Grab a sense of humour. If its not your taste, grab the remote.

No segment of Canada has been left unscathed by Conan. Most Canadians have the ability to laugh at themselves. Playing on the tension between English and French Canadians is funny. That's what Triumph the insult dog does.. he insults everyone.

Everyone needs to lighten up a little bit. Can't we poke fun at ourselves and luagh about it?

From the article quoted above:

"This is tasteless. It's extremely offensive to Quebeckers," he said. "This is not the kind of humour that is healthy for the country" said late Liberal premier Robert Bourassa.

But he goes on to say: "Jesus. This is not going to play well here."

No, that's not offensive to anyone.

And yet the world continues to turn... seems to me the English are fair game as well when it comes to humor from our friends in la belle province. Half of my entire family of relatives are Quebec/Acadian French (my mother's maiden name is Devarrenes)... you don't think they like to fire off a joke or two as well? Come on guys... you know better than that!

... and don't be dissing Ed the Sock! It's too bad people can't look past the initial shock of the humor and to see it's a truely clever person wielding that little cigar-chomping stogey. Triumph the insult comic dog pales in comparison to Ed the Sock.

Long live Ed!

Gotta disagree, MannyP. Ed the sock is pathetically devoid of wit or grace. It is ugly, it sounds ugly and what it does in the name of entertainment is ugly. I'm all for a good laugh in the face of political correctness, but what Ed spouts is spectacularly unfunny.

Goes to show how humour is a subjective thing, don't it? (;->))

Mind you, in the defence of Ed, I don't find Conan or Bullard entertaining either. These guys elicit the odd laugh in me, but I have to move on lest I expire from boredom and disgust. Give me This hour has 22 Minutes, The Newsroom or practically anything Rick Mercer does... these shows have at least a fighting chance of making me guffaw. Far as I'm concerned, Ed and his miserable late night cronies are all a bunch of back-biting snipes chasing a shrinking audience, desperately trying to sound clever. Ho hum.

Well, for me, it was so shameful it couldn't be taken seriously. Laughed my a%* off in a strangely uncomfortable way. We are all targets for Conan. Why should Quebec be any different?
Good Stuff, he found a sore spot (with the Cherry stuff going on) and exploited us without mercy.

Hey, we haven't ALL been made fun of... BC hasn't been mentioned at all!

As usual, Canada heads no further west than the outskirts of Toronto.

Oh wait.. there was the mention of....
.....
Winnipeg!

(that still makes me giggle)

Don't worry... if and when Conan comes to Vancouver (or, far less likely, Calgary or Edmonton) he'll slag Western Canada, too. Remember, much of Conan's American audience has a hard enough time figuring out where Toronto is located. (;->))

You guys have obviously not watched a lot of Triumphs segments on late Night.

Check some of them out on iFilm, then you might see that nothing he did was really out of character.

Funny too! Celine Dion Sucks street. those that take offense at that should be glad that's all it said.
