So I am going to be buying a PS2 in the very near future, and am looking for some suggestions for games and accessories.

I am already going to be buying SSX Tricky, Final Fantasy X, NHL 2003 and the Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers game by EA the day after tomorrow.

What games do y'all like and what accessories are cool?

Final Fantasy X is great; however, my only complaint is that it is more like an interactive movie than a game.

Tekken Tag and Tekken 4 are great fighting games. T 4 looks more impressive and has walls but T Tag has more characters.

Dynasty Warriors 3 is also a lot of fun. It's very engaging. Plus you can have 2 players simuletaneously!

Spider-man is fun for a rental but you can win it quite quickly.

DW3 was great, and try Metal Gear Solid, thats really good, and if you feel like havin some real fun...

DDRMAX 2 (Dance Dance Revolution 7th Mix) get the mat and dance the night away.... only warning I give is that once you're addicted, well, ohh wait too late... I got my friend hooked on it within 2 songs... very funny... The mats cost around $50 CDN, and the game is about the same, hard to find though, will hafta check around as no big name ppl have it. Best place is probably Chinatown as the game is Japanese...

That and I like FFX... and the controller, may be an old style but you can't beat it.

Have fun wid the PS2 PB!

Thanks for the suggestions and keep em comin'!

I decided not to wait for payday and bought the PS2 today. :D

I do plan to pick up Grand Theft Auto 3 at some point, but right now it is fairly low down on my list.

I would buy the DVD remote, but I already have a sweet Panasonic DVD player that doesn its job quite nicely. It's not progressive scan, but when I was testing out DVD Players at work (a benefit of emplyment) I didn;t see enough of a difference between the Prog. Scan and non Prog. scan model on the TV I was buying, even when hooked up via Component (AKA Color Stream) video.

Wait, wasn;t I walking about video games?

Dance Dance Revolution eh? Maybe later.

I did pick up Simpson's Road Rage today along with SSX Trick and FFX. Think Crazy taxi but with all the simpson's characters. Hours of fun.
I agree with CC about FFX too, it is more like an interactive movie. You can go for a long time without actually doing anything. my game timer says 4 hours, but I bet only about half of that was actually playing, the rest was watching the story.

Keep the suggestions a comin'!

More game suggestions:

Any game that is a "platinum seller" has been pretty good, and under $30. Here's the ones I've bought so far:

-Gran Tourismo 3 (incredible $%&-ing game)
- Twisted Metal Black (MUCH darker than I thought it would be, and you can get Twisted Metal Online for free when you buy the modem)
- Red Faction (great FPS)
- Jak and Daxter (another amazing game, a platformer)

Other heavy recommendations:
- Burnout 2
- Rez
- Frequency

All 4 of these would be <$100 if you shop around! Check here for some honest reviews:

Being a big console gamer (over 200 games, and I own pretty much every console) i can say that the PS2 is the best bang for your buck this generation. Good choice on getting one. I'm not sure why Grand Theft Auto 3 is fairly low on your list, it's probably one of the best game son the console and Vice City is supposed to be even better. Get them both!

I'm also really into the entire Final Fantasy series and FFX is good, but not nearly as good as earlier offerings. If you haven't played the older ones I'd look into that. You should also get Metal Gear Solid (for the original Playstation) and Metal Gear Solid 2. However, a new version of MGS2 is coming out which will include the original release of the game along with 100's of VR missions and other neat things.

You can't go wrong with most of the games on PS2! Enjoy your console.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I'd like to make one of my own now.

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, The Video Game was released today by EA (made in Vancouver as I recall) and I picked it up. It is freaking awesome! You have to see it to believe it! There are cut scenes, but the cut scenes aren;t so much scripted gameplay sequences, they are film clips from the movie!
You get to play a few locations from The Fellowship as well: The Mines of Moria (outside and inside), the part where Boromir (sp?) is killed, and one or two others, before jumping into the rest of the game.

The more levels you finish and the more levels the characters gain (you get to play as Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli) unlock a lot of extra DVD style content as well, including interviews with the actors, concept art, and all kinds of other stuff.

Perhaps my only complaint is that it is a single player game, and could have been a very cool 2 player game.

All in all, a great purchase, I reccomend to all.

Keep the suggestions coming!
