5 dead, 8+ injured, shooting at Ft. Lauderdale airport

5 dead, 8 injured in Fort Lauderdale airport shooting in Florida

Five people were killed and at least eight others injured after a gunman opened fire inside the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida on Friday afternoon.

Former White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer was in the airport at the time and tweeted “shots have been fired” and “everyone is running” shortly after 1 p.m. ET Friday.

Broward County Sheriff’s office confirmed there was “one subject in custody.”

The shooter was later identified as Esteban Santiago, 26, of New Jersey. Santiago had a military identification card at the time of the shooting, according to a spokesman for U.S. Senator Bill Nelson of Florida.

A witness told Global News that the shooter did not yell or scream, and that he didn’t appear to be targeting a specific person or group. The witness described the shooter as being about 5′ 7″ tall with short, dark hair.

The Canadian embassy in Washington, D.C. denied reports that the shooter may have arrived in Fort Lauderdale on a Canadian flight.

“We understand from officials he was on a flight originating in Anchorage transiting through Minneapolis and landing Fort Lauderdale,” Christine Constantin, a spokeswoman for the Canadian embassy in Washington, D.C., said in a statement.

Earlier, Chip LaMarca, a Broward County commissioner told the Associated Press the suspect was a passenger on a Canadian flight.

LaMarca told the news agency the shooter pulled a gun handgun from a checked bag, loaded the weapon in a bathroom before opening fire in the baggage terminal.

All those $Billion$ spent on Team Sexual Assault and they have still failed to capture any terrorists or deranged gunmen.

Airport Shooter Converted to Islam, Identified as Aashiq Hammad Years Before Joining Army

Quote:
The Ft. Lauderdale Airport shooter is a Muslim convert who years before joining the U.S. Army took on an Islamic name (Aashiq Hammad), downloaded terrorist propaganda and recorded Islamic religious music online, according to public records dug up by the investigative news site of an award-winning, California journalist. This is pertinent information that the Obama administration apparently wants to keep quiet, bringing up memories of the Benghazi cover up, in which the president and his cohorts knowingly lied to conceal that Islamic terrorists attacked the U.S. Special Mission in Libya.

Your sources, as usual, are as committed to journalistic excellence as those of the jihadist german pilot from a couple of years ago....

I loved this headline in one of the things you linked to: "BREAKING: Records Suggest #FortLauderdale Shooter #EstebanSantiago Is Puerto Rican Islamic Terrorist & Anime Fan"

OMG he's an Anime Fan? Launch Countermeasures! AAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

It seems pretty clear that this guy was mentally disturbed.

Quote:
The 26-year-old had a history of mental health issues, according to his relatives - some of which followed his military service in Iraq several years ago.

Authorities said Santiago walked into an FBI office in Anchorage in November last year claiming the government was trying to control his mind and he was being forced to watch ISIS videos, CBS reported.

Investigators did a background check and found no connection between Santiago and terror groups, USA Today wrote. They turned over the suspect to local authorities for a medical referral.

After that incident, Santiago started getting treatment for his mental health issues, sources said.

He was previously pictured giving a one-fingered salute, which is commonly used by Islamic State jihadists often before they embark on a suicide bombing.

I guess I really need to be careful when people take photos of me. With my luck, they'll catch me pointing at something and then I'll be declared an ISIS sympathizer!
