Web hosting... Yes again! 80)

I am once again looking for the best fit to my supposed needs. I am currently with 1and1 who is pretty good for my needs save for one.

I want offline access to my stored files; Windows only on 1and1.

I am using Google Docs for my email, online doc editing, calendar and storage. I would like to find a web host that offers same so I can pull the plug on big brother google.

I host a picture album and blog so my web needs are minimal, it's more my email / online storage I interested in.

GoDaddy may fit but it seems the ehMac community avoids it more then they do Windows. 80)

Thoughts?

I don't really understand your requirements, but I have usede Host Papa for a number of years now and am perfectly happy with them.
They are a Canadian company, use green power and offer more capabilities than I will ever need - they have also been growing which to me means they are doing things right.

Thanks.

My main beef with 1and1 is that I can't access my online storage when I am offline. I know that makes no sense without details but Google, DropBox all have software you install on the desktop to facilitate keeping a copy of your online files locally on the computer. This allows for offline access and syncs itself when you return online. 1and1 offers a solution to do this on Windows only.

interesting I haven't heard of this being offered by web hosts. Only google/icloud generally.

what about just using a good host and dropbox?

My only issue with a host an drop box is having document editing capabilities that play well with Mac and Windows. I have Pages and Numbers but since they don't work on Windows I having to export so I could edit on Windows, then have to open the Windows file later on only to create a Pages files.

Actually, I never thought to look if I could force Pages to only save as .Doc only. By default.

What would actually be the best solution is to give us back Mobile Me and not this iCloud nonsense. It hasn't changed has it? I don't use it... Lol

1and1 offers this, works exactly like Google Docs. Quite well too! It's just missing the offline usage.

I'm not sure why this has to be the responsibility of your web host. Microsoft's SkyDrive is a direct competitor to Dropbox, but with the added capability of the Office web apps. These apps work remarkably well and sync your modified files with the cloud and your desktop. Of course, whatever reason you have for leaving Google Docs might also apply to Microsoft, but at least it's an alternative.

Although I'm not a Microsoft fan, I'm open minded. 80)

The issue with SD is that it is only online storage. I am looking for editing capabilities like Google Docs has. 1and1 also has this as well.

Google is nice but I am not sure how I feel about their lack of privacy. The mail GUI with gmail is also brutal. With Google, I can't host a website and picasa is meh.

Having a web host that handles everything is nice as its convenient only having to deal with one company.

Suppose I could have been a bit more clear in what I was looking for.

Web hosting (one-click apps)
Webmail
Online storage
iOS app
Offline access to online storage

Basically, everything we had with Mobile Me.

1and1 has everything but offline access. I also have no size limits here.

Google has everything but web hosting and their picture service is lacking.

GoDaddy might do everything I want but they wanted to support SOPA which really wouldn't matter as I don't do anything questionable but its principal.
