With the passing of Arthel "Doc" Watson, in Winston-Salem., North Carolina on May 29th at the age of 89, America has lost a master of acoustic folk and country guitar – a blind flat-picking virtuoso of astonishing velocity, clean precision and earthy melodic comfort.

I saw Doc (and son) at the Univ. of Alaska, in Fairbanks, many moons ago. He indeed, was a master - I knew his music, and loved his style, and felt so fortunate to be able to enjoy him in person.
RIP Doc .. you were were 'the' man!!
Thanks for info johnP, didn't know he passed away. When my guitar teacher introduce me to Doc waaay back then, I fell in love with his guitar playing. I'd be listening to Neil Young, Dylan and the Doc. I had one chance to see him at the El Mocombo but he cancelled, I believe that's when his son died in a tractor accident. So sad about his son Merle passing way at a young age too. LP's were hard to get on most of Doc Watson's stuff but when his music went on iTunes, songs galore at a fingertip, I was in heaven. RIP Doc!
