No young children with whom to travel, but I like Westjet's new policy of allowing a small pet under 35 pounds to sit next to you at no charge for the seat. As all my dogs are under this weight limit this is great.

I have no idea what you're talking about. Pets must remain in their carriers at all times during the flight, and the carrier must fit in the space under the seat in front of you. And the weight restriction is 22 pounds.

I am sorry I have been on a flight with a dog on it. Put them in the cargo hold. Nothing worse than a 4 hour flight with a crying barking dog the whole time. And I don't want a dog running around the cabin or sitting on a seat where I may sit the next time I fly.

rude but I have to agree.. +1

before we had kids.. wife had a cat.. we always put it in cargo.. because we respected the travels on board.. it is not fair for the rest of us.. unless you have it under your seat.. does everyone have to be like Jan Ardin.. LOL [ she caused a stink on a via rail train.. so they asked her to leave a the next station LOL ] - when did putting your animals in a cage become wrong?

Well, one of the perks of flying Westjet out of St.John's, where the flights westward originate, and having an ehMacLand coffee cup, is that you fly first class and have your pet sit next to you for free. Who would be an ehMacLand cup in cargo???? Shocking. :D

Not here in St.John's, MLeh. Mother Nature dumped a load of Sheila's Brush snow, and as tradition has it, we are allowed to continue with non-harmful April Fools Day jokes until the snow melts .................. or by May 24th weekend, whichever comes first.

Actually, Westjet is far more lenient with shipping dogs than are the regulations of Air Canada.

I like Westjet. I have travelled with them 4 times and each time was pleasant. The flight staff look like they enjoy their jobs and make it a pleasant time. The last time on our trip to Vegas they didn't think they would have refreshments on board so they gave us each a $10 voucher. You can't buy much for $10 after security but it got me 2 bottles of water and some fruit. Can't complain. And they still had drinks on board.

And they allow one free check-in luggage. On my trip back from Banff mine was a little over weight and they let it go without charging me though I would have paid but now I remember that kindness and I return the favour by booking my trips with them.

You need to travel on their first class jets out of St.John's. The whole jet is first class, with people and pets sitting side by side, kids down in the cargo compartment, and great meals prepared and served at your seat. Truly fine dining.

The "cattle cars" are what we get on Air Canada, at least here in St.John's. They leave westward at between 3-7AM so as to get people to the GTA by early morning (it's a 3 1/2 flight and we are 1 1/2 time zones away from TCotU).

I say, go WestJet whenever you are flying to or from St.John's.

What they say is 'every seat is first class'.

Seriously, I fly with Westjet on average four times a month (that would be two round trips a month), if not moreso, and I can count on one hand the issues I've had, and most of them were related to weather conditions, over which no airline has much control (aside from the way they react, which in Westjet's case was to provide me with a hotel room for remainder of the evening, a meal voucher, and a seat on the first flight out the next morning.)

But they are far more accommodating with last minute changes to itineraries than Air Canada is at the same fare level, which works well for my needs.

The only times I've had issues that were not resolved to my satisfaction were with other passengers: spoiled children and their doting parents (no, we don't all think it's 'cute'), one 'unaccompanied minor' sitting next to me who stuck his fingers in my soft drink, and was kicking the back of the seat in front of him, (the passenger turned around and glared at me, thinking I was a 'parental unit', which I explained i WAS NOT, and called the flight attendent), and on another flight one lady quite literally 'let the dog out of the bag' mid flight, which is why I really appreciated the 'Kid Kargo' video, and reacted to Dr. G.'s 'dog on the seat' story.

The Westjet April Fools joke a few years was that they were going to convert the overhead bins into 'sleeping compartments'. I thought that was a good idea too!

I fly with Air Canada about 6 times per year, and I can count on one hand the number of times that there has not been a problem. This includes weather related issues, over which I agree no airline has control, aside from the way they react, which in AC's case was to tell me "too bad... you're travel arrangements are completely screwed, you won't make it to your speaking engagement, and we aren't interested in helping in any way."

Why, you might reasonably ask, do I continue to deal with such a craptastic airline? Because they're the only airline that flies out of Fredericton. So my options are to add 3 hours to my travel time (plus parking and gas expenses) by driving to Moncton or St.John and flying from there, or deal with Air Canada. If I'm going to drive 3 hours, I may as well drive to Maine and fly from within the US and save about 75% on the airfare.

I just wish whoever is responsible for this sort of thing would grow a brain and put one international airport in Sussex (midway between Moncton, St.John and Fredericton, and easily accessible from all of them), and get rid of the piddly little airports in every town that can't sustain carrier interest.

When I flew from St.John's to The Learneds in Fredericton last Spring, I flew from St.John's to Halifax, both provincial capitals. Then, when I was to fly to Fredericton, the capital city of NB, we were switched to a small 16 seater plane. Due to the amount of baggage on board, one person had to be left behind due to weight restrictions.

This would've been Air Canada (Jazz), correct?

They've, *never* been on time, they've lost my luggage more often than they have managed not to, and they've sent me to the wrong city once. Just astoundingly incompetent.

Westjet left my luggage behind once, but offered me a $100 credit voucher if I came to the airport to pick it up when it arrived rather than having them deliver it to my hotel. (I was staying not too far away, and had a rental car, so just popped over to the airport when I got the phone call. It came in on the next flight.)

I was flying out of Saskatoon once, on A/C, already boarded, luggage checked, when they discovered a fuel leak and we all had to leave the plane. Fortunately they unloaded our luggage too, so I was able to re-claim it. The announcement was made that the flight was canceled until they could fly a mechanic in from Calgary, which would be in approximately 6 hours. There isn't much to do at the Saskatoon airport for 6 hours.

I walked over to the Westjet desk and asked "Can you get me to Vancouver tonight?" The response was "We're just boarding a flight to Calgary, and you can transfer there to a flight to Vancouver". So I gave the nice lady my credit card and went and boarded the flight.

Then the fun started. Sitting on the Westjet plane, I thought it would be best to cancel my flight on Air Canada, so I phoned the 1-800 #, explained what had happened with the flight I'd been on and asked for a credit. The customer service agent said "You're shown as having boarded the flight." I confirmed that, but also that we had 'de-boarded'. She said "But you checked luggage." I confirmed that, but also that I had reclaimed my luggage. And she said "Oh, they shouldn't have let you have your luggage back." (because we all know they like to hold your luggage hostage).

Anyway, after numerous explanations, and simply asking for a credit, I finally said "I have to hang up now, as the nice Westjet flight attendent is asking us to turn off all electronic devices." I got my credit.

About the only time I fly Air Canada now is for longer haul flights. But Air Canada is still better than United or American, so I guess we should count our blessings!

I hate Air Canada.. everytime I want to fly out EAST [atlantic Canada] they *** us over.. I pay or use my very dear miles to get the direct flight, first thing the AM.. they always - screw us 2 weeks before the flight saying - we have changed your trip.. 3 planes, and/ extra stop overs - never never give me back the miles or money difference..
Not to mention the most rudest bunch work at air canada.. if they hate their jobs they should quit - its not my problem or issue if they hate their employer.
I should not suffer for it..
every trip I complain, they give me a voucher for 25% off next trip.. to bad I can not combine them.
Sadly Westjet has reduced flights to Atlantic Canada during the winter - sometimes they are more expensive..
But I do try to fly westjet when ever possible.

the only issue I have had with WestJet was in PEI, pilot could not start the plane..then a harley davidson type charter came out of the cockpit grabbed his jacket and left.. - we sat 20 mins before a lady said no flight today.. [ I had to scramble for my own taxi and food etc ] that was bad service..

I stopped using Aeroplan points years ago. My wife still collects them and uses them when she does not mind being bumped or having our flight changed.

Wow............. AC gave you two weeks notice??? That is great .............. once we were given five days notice ................. and once less than two days notice.

The record for here in St.John's was a person who was at the airport in plenty of time on a Tuesday afternoon ready to get her bag checked in (she had already printed off her ticket and paid extra for seat selection) only to be told that her flight was changed ................ wait for it ................. to earlier that day. She asked how could they bump her to an earlier flight without notifying her at all. The person at the desk had no answer ........... and so she was given a $300 voucher for a flight ............. wait for it ................ on Friday. It made the news and we were waiting for it to hit Marketplace on CBC as one of the "fine" examples of AC's service here in NL.

I believe the airlines hate Atlantic Canada. It's a shame, it a beautiful place that needs to be discovered by everyone. - but not after September as boards go up on the windows and the poog cheqs start being mailed out ;-)

Well, we are at the end of the milk run here in St.John's. So, a flight could get in at 3AM as the last flight of the day ................ and then turn around with a new crew for a 5AM flight, the first flight of the day.
