: So who is the worst actor?
Rps Apr 1st, 2012, 02:10 PM Okay, so right off the top let us be civil and recognize that one man's trash is another man's treasure. Was listening to the radio and lo and behold they are advertising Billy Shatner hosting the Juno awards.... I guess nothing sez music like William Shatner.
I never liked him as an actor... But he has been on quite a ride.. He is everywhere.
So this leads me to ask : " Who do you think is the worst actor to have a good career.
Outside of Mr. Shatner, my vote goes to Adam West. I could never figure out if he was a great actor playing a bad one in Batman, or just a bad actor. Also what gives with him in Family Guy........your turn.
cap10subtext Apr 1st, 2012, 02:35 PM Uma Thurman. Nothing against her personally, but I'm in the minority of people who find her completely uninteresting onscreen.
Rps Apr 1st, 2012, 02:39 PM It is amazing how unremarkable she is, but she does seem to command a great deal of buzz. In some ways she is like Jennifer Aniston, okay to look at but no great acting ability.
MLeh Apr 1st, 2012, 02:43 PM Knowing how truly awful I am at acting myself (and having video confirmation of same), I find myself hesitant to disparage those who are good enough to actually make it through screen tests and onto the screen. Imagine how bad the ones who don't make it must be!
I think Shatner & West are probably more proficient at 'self parody' than most.
eMacMan Apr 1st, 2012, 02:45 PM Lot's of the current crop coming to mind.
The orange haired guy with the tilty head on CSI Miami.
The entire cast of the new Hawaii 5-0
Kevin McKidd (Dr. Owen Wilson) on Grey's Anatomy.
Dr.G. Apr 1st, 2012, 02:47 PM Hard to say, Rp. Still, it takes a degree of courage to go on stage or to perform on TV or on film, so I really can't put someone down for their roles. "Walk a mile in his or her shoes before you put them down". Paix, mon ami.
johnp Apr 1st, 2012, 02:47 PM Shatner, imho, was absolutely brilliant in the tv series Boston Legal.
The Doug Apr 1st, 2012, 02:53 PM Jean Claude Van Damme. Wait, no - Jim Carrey.
mrjimmy Apr 1st, 2012, 03:00 PM Keanu Reeves, hands down.
fjnmusic Apr 1st, 2012, 03:10 PM Denis Leary. Don't get me wrong. I love everything he does, but whether it's Tommy Gavin in Rescue Me, Gus in the Ref, or any standup routine he performs or Tweet he composes, it's just really the same guy. Either he's a great actor who acts completely different from his private self, and he's just incredibly consistent in this deception, or he's not really acting. I'm thinking door number two.
CubaMark Apr 1st, 2012, 03:25 PM I haven't seen Kevin McKidd on Grey's Anatomy, but he was excellent as Lucius Vorenus in the Rome series (though perhaps having Ray Stevenson as his constant onscreen companion gave him a boost - Pullo remains one of my favourite television characters of all time).

As for Shatner - agreed, Boston Legal was a fabulous role for him. One of the few times (if not only) in which I didn't see his face and immediately think of Kirk.
I'll throw my support, though, for Worst Actor Who Nonetheless Has Had A Successful Career to Stephen Seagal. Started out well, but soon devolved into a sad parody of himself.

Bjornbro Apr 1st, 2012, 04:24 PM Danny Devito. I'm repulsed by the man and can't figure out how he has had a successful career. Aren't there any other short, fat actors in Hollywood?
In the same category, Wil Farrel. I've seen too many of his movies (I don't know why) and I have yet to crack a smile.
Max Apr 1st, 2012, 04:39 PM McKidd was indeed excellent in Rome.
Shatner has transcended his bad acting roots and come though the other side a strangely gifted man.
Segal is terribly wooden. I've never seen him do a convincing role. Ever.
Sly Stallone is in the same league as Segal.
As I recall, David Caruso was pretty good in NYPD Blue. After that, the stink came on and stuck fast. It's pure parody, isn't it? What a schtick he's got. But at least it's a sellable schtick, so good on him.
As for Dennis Leary, I agree that he plays the same guy, over and over again. Yet I can watch him do that role 'till the cows come home. I think he's brilliant in Rescue Me. Also loved him in The Ref.

eMacMan Apr 2nd, 2012, 01:32 AM LOS ANGELES — Adam Sandler and friends have scored a new high — or low — among voters of the Razzies, an Academy Awards spoof that presents prizes for the year’s worst movies. Sandler’s “Jack and Jill” managed a Razzies first on Sunday, claiming 10 awards to sweep every single category. Along with the movie’s worst-picture award, Sandler won for both worst actor and actress for his dual roles in “Jack and Jill,” in which he plays a family man and his own pesky twin sister.
“He didn’t play triplets, but he couldn’t have won more awards if he had,” said Razzies founder John Wilson.
Sandler also shared the “Jack and Jill” Razzies for worst ensemble, worst screen couple opposite either himself or co-stars Al Pacino or Katie Holmes and worst screenplay as a co-writer on the movie.
Pacino won as worst supporting actor for playing himself in “Jack and Jill,” while Sandler pal David Spade was named worst supporting actress for his own cross-dressing role in the movie.
It’s the only movie in the 32-year history of the Razzies to win every prize.
‘Jack and Jill’ sets worst-movie record with Razzies sweep; Sandler named worst actor, actress - The Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/jack-and-jill-sets-worst-movie-record-with-razzies-sweep-sandler-named-worst-actor-actress/2012/04/01/gIQAJRBvpS_story.html)

bryanc Apr 2nd, 2012, 08:57 AM Keanu Reeves, hands down.
This.
I've been hoping for years that someone would make a movie starring Keanu Reeves, Winona Ryder and Kevin Costner, so I could sit at home enjoying the fact that I'm not watching that movie.

Tommy Lee Jones went completely out of character for his role as the beleaguered cop in No country for old men. He did a great job of it, too. His role is a far cry from the hyper-confident US Marshall from The Fugitive - much more of an interiorized, reflective role, with remarkably subtle touches. Both were great, memorable roles for him.
As for De Niro, I see a lot more nuance in his many roles than you do.

Especially his earlier roles... less so of late though.
Max Apr 2nd, 2012, 02:25 PM Agreed, Screature. The last twenty years or so have been pretty dreary, De Niro-wise.

chas_m Apr 4th, 2012, 05:16 AM I may be alone on this, but Owen Wilson drives me absolutely crazy. Everything I loathe about surfer-dude, emotionally-driven cluelessness (also see: Matthew McConaughey), witless anti-inquisitive drug-using slacker culture conveniently rolled up in one package. Suffered through the otherwise-enjoyable Midnight in Paris gritting my teeth. Have never seen him do a lick of acting, EVER. Even in the one film in which I thought he was perfectly cast, Zoolander. I have deliberately avoided a movie I suspect I would otherwise enjoy (Darjeeling Express) because he's so prominently featured in it. If Keanu Reeves (who I also dislike intensely) can be summed up as "duuude," Owen Wilson can be summed up as "whatever, duuude."
He was especially unforgivable in MiP because he was essentially playing a WASP version of Woody Allen. All of the neuroses, none of the charm of being Jewish (and yes, Allen is another one-note actor, but I *like* his one note).
I'm able to avoid the movies that feature most of the other actors more widely regarded as rotten (Seagal, Stallone, Sandler, Baldwins ...) so they aren't an issue with me. But Wilson keeps getting cast in movies I would otherwise want to watch, which adds to his annoyance factor. :)
PS. LOVE Shatner. LOVE Adam West. I don't mind one-note actors at all if I like the note. :)
mrjimmy Apr 4th, 2012, 06:26 AM Agreed, Screature. The last twenty years or so have been pretty dreary, De Niro-wise.
He was very good in the remake of Cape Fear.
mrjimmy Apr 4th, 2012, 06:28 AM Suffered through the otherwise-enjoyable Midnight in Paris gritting my teeth.
He spoiled that film for me also.
eMacMan Apr 4th, 2012, 09:56 AM FWIW John Wayne was pretty much a one note actor. Still like Johnny Cash he knew how to milk that note.
Have to agree with Owen Wilson but still find Adam Sandler even more obnoxious.
