: Have you googled yourself lately?
Lawrence Mar 30th, 2012, 08:07 PM Are you on the first page of a google search?
I was actually amazed that I was on the first page of a google search for "Lawrence"
Didn't realize I was that famous, Right along side of "Lawrence of Arabia"
How about you?
Are you as famous as me?
Are you on the first page of the hit parade?
SINC Mar 30th, 2012, 08:11 PM Nope, I am only second, not first. Try your real full name and see if you even come up on the first page! ;)

Well. To spoof that, I did that just now,
"David Lawrence" is even higher on the Google list,
Thanks, That's really gratifying.
Dr.G. Mar 30th, 2012, 08:22 PM Yes I did .............. and I am in competition with another person of the exact same name who is a bookseller in TO.
Sonal Mar 30th, 2012, 08:24 PM My first name is very common.... so no. I am no where near the first few pages.
My last name, however, is very unusual. Almost every search result on Google is a member of my immediate family.
MLeh Mar 30th, 2012, 08:28 PM I like flying under the radar. Not even on the first page ...
IllusionX Mar 30th, 2012, 08:30 PM With my full name, I come up like 5th on google. All the other results is another guy with the same full name.
SINC Mar 30th, 2012, 08:34 PM Well. To spoof that, I did that just now,

My question was, is the David Lawrence that appears higher on the first page actually you?

I hope so, Otherwise I'm just a nobody.
Google does seem to make me famous though.
Although...I have been on the Internet since it began in 1994,
Although, That was before Google, Remember 600 engines?
G-Mo Mar 30th, 2012, 09:28 PM Your results are skewed because you are using your own computer and Google knows you and your history... If I Google myself, I'm the top 5 entries (website, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc...). On a computer at the Apple Store or the library or any public place, I'm not so popular.
Max Mar 30th, 2012, 09:33 PM I used my own Mac and I still don't show up on the first page. That's fine with me.
Trose Mar 30th, 2012, 09:35 PM Though my name isn't really common, I happen to share my first+last name with a fairly popular Australian author and public speaker. So at a quick glance I can't find any sites about me in the first 5 pages of search results.
Also, for obvious reasons I am reminded of this clip from 30 Rock: googlemyself 30 rock - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKEw7JNVcnw)
John Clay Mar 30th, 2012, 09:41 PM I'm nowhere to be found - just the way I like it :)
Ottawaman Mar 30th, 2012, 09:43 PM This whole thread is inappropriate. Google yourself in the privacy of your own home perverts;)

Nothing resembling your name came up on the first page came up when I googled Lawrence.
javaqueen Mar 30th, 2012, 10:46 PM I am 4th on the Google list of my name :D
Macfury Mar 30th, 2012, 11:56 PM I'm number 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11. I am one of five people with my name in the third position.
Would be interesting to exchange names with each other and see how we do on web sites not trained to recognize us.

I used to be the only one on the first three pages with my surname. Now those pages are filled by my cousins, plus my late mother. No matter to me, I am sure that my 5 books show up somewhere later...
Lawrence Mar 31st, 2012, 07:56 AM Nothing resembling your name came up on the first page came up when I googled Lawrence.
That's strange, Worked for me,
I'm the last entry on the first page of the search.
groovetube Mar 31st, 2012, 08:34 AM between music and a unique name, I've long since stopped being disturbed at having 3 or 4 pages of stuff coming up. Seems I can't do anything without google knowing about it.
edit: havent looked in a while, I gave up after 30+ pages. Google seems to be after me.
Sonal Mar 31st, 2012, 09:42 AM That's strange, Worked for me,

It's what people are saying about searches varying based on past history--Google keep track. I have no past history of you in any of my searches.
Even on David Lawrence, I don't see you on page 1. (No one from Canada.) Unless you are also an actor from Calgary.
Macfury Mar 31st, 2012, 10:21 AM That's strange, Worked for me,
I'm the last entry on the first page of the search.
I looked for a 5 or 6 pages for "David Lawrence" and that entry didn't come up. But in your screen grab it says that "You Shared This" and that may have permanently influenced the results.
Just for the heck of it, I will search for my name on a computer with no history of being used by me.
BigDL Mar 31st, 2012, 11:18 AM Having waded through many pages of folks that share my name I found myself. Seems Facebook and My Space have a lot more hits. Neither site do I visit.
I then googled my deceased father's name to see if he was more popular in google than his great-grandfather that shared the same name.
Turns out my father's great-grandfather is more popular but I also found my father's great-grandfather's great-grandfather who was born near London UK in 1739. The story I uncovered matches family lore regarding two brothers immigrating from England.
It was information being discussed was about my great-great grandfather's brother and provided enough common links that I knew that discussion was about my family.
So thanks Lawrence, for insisting I google my name.
chrisburke Mar 31st, 2012, 04:42 PM I'm within the top 10.. And if you put my title (pastor).. Which when people search for me they tend to use my title.. Im #2

MacDoc Mar 31st, 2012, 05:38 PM Fairly unusual last name Hellstern - only 3 in North America according to google sharing the ridiculously popular David as a first name. ( when starting out in sales I had 18 dealers to cover - 9 of them named David )
I do come up first via linkedIn
MacDoc of course pops up right at the top as it should be :D

bryanc Apr 2nd, 2012, 09:07 AM There's a famous football player who has the same name as I do, so I'm surprised I manage to show up on the first page. However, this exercise has revealed to me that there are some shockingly outdated links to me from when I was a grad student. I'll have to send some emails to get those updated.

With the hint of the famous football player, I guessed your last name and googled it. On my search, your first appearance is at an old job in Alberta near the bottom of Page 3. Most other references are to the football player.

Must be due to the google algorithm biasing my results towards New Brunswick hits. The old U of A link is one of the obsolete ones I'm trying to get fixed.
