So because of iCloud I no longer sync photos to my iPhone but when I look at my iPhone in iTunes, it clearly lists over 12GB of photos, it also shows only about 1.14GB as available space. In settings/usage on my iPhone, there is nothing for photos, although it indicates available space as being 1.3GB. Clearly photos from Photo Stream are taking up space.

I'm just about to head out for a trip and would like to have some more space on my iPhone for pics and videos I will take.

Do I have to turn off Photo Stream to get this space back? I would prefer to use PS as I would like my family to see the pics before I get back. Or is there another way?

Are you removing photos from your camera roll as you go?

Also, of you want to share your photostream while on the road, you might also consider the app 'camerasync' and a Flickr account.
