: iPad 2 or 3rd gen, ZAGG and Smart Cover
Joker Eh Mar 28th, 2012, 10:49 AM A question for those who have an iPad 2 or 3rd gen (new iPad) and are using the ZAGG rear protection with a smart cover.
How does it work with the smart cover? Does the smart cover attach properly with shield in place. I noticed that there is no cut out for the smart cover in their normal protection.
I only want to protect the back from scratches but just want to make sure smart cover will continue to work without issue.
smellybook Mar 28th, 2012, 04:32 PM I had this exact setup on my ipad 2 & would like the same thing on the new ipad.
I can't seem to get a straight answer on if the smart cover will work on the new ipad as well.
I can't find any Zagg sheilds for the new ipad either & was also wondering if the Zagg for ipad 2 would fit on the back side.

The smart cover will work on the new iPad that did not change. Though it does depend when you purchased the smart cover as Apple did change the polarity on the smart covers magnets. so depending on when you purchased it closing the smart cover will not lock the device if you have that option enables.
The ZAGG shield are there on their new website, they just don't have the knockout for the smart cover where it attaches, so I am not sure the smart cover will sit properly.

You wouldn't be gamed for the Belkin back cover? It is very slim and protective. Has a metal strip on back to hold back smart cover when folded back. I did have Best Buy put on a Zagg screen shield and it looks good. MInd you I do have the iPad 2.

Didn't know Belkin make a back cover.

Yep! Saw a few at Best Buy and grabbed a dark gray one. If you do get one make sure it has the metal strip at back, not all of them have it.
fyrefly Mar 30th, 2012, 12:15 PM You're talking about the Zagg Invisishield? It's just a thin film of plastic, and covers the iPad like a skin. The Smart Cover still works, as it just magnetizes through the thin film. I have a skin similar to the Inivisishield on my iPad 2 and use a smartcover regularly.

just to make sure I am talking about covering the back.
though the skin is thin the cover has to sit differently, i would think. I am not worried about the magnets I am concerned about how it sits. just asking it sits nice and snug.

I had the ZAGG InvisibleShield full body protection on my iPad 2 and never had an issue. The Smart Cover works the same as it would with a naked iPad.
