So I'm busy backing up lots of music and video (home movie of family mostly) files on a new external hard drive from other external drives.
Some video files are un-edited, some partly so and a few pretty much complete.
I have CC and SD but both of them mention,in their options, deleting or archiving files if they have the same name or are the same.
Since I have so much video, some of it may have the same name (kids, School, Vacation 2002, etc), I can't take a chance that something will be overwritten or deleted.

I've looked at both programs a number of times and don't see an easy "Copy everything and leave destination untouched" so I'm just doing a copy entire drive A and paste onto drive B which works ok but does create a folder on drive B instead of just the video files that I get with Carbon Copy.

I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to do, but neither CCC or SD have overwritten files simply because they're called the same thing. There are many other parameters that would be used to identify duplicate files (e.g., size, date of last edit, etc.). Which is a good thing, because I probably have a thousand files on my computer called "draft report.doc"

I don't understand your logic or reasoning, but if all the files and folders are happily coexisting on your drive, that's what CCC will clone, ie: and exact copy assuming everything was selected to be cloned.

CCC has an option to NOT delete or overwrite any files/folders on the target backup drive that don't exist in the same directory path as the source drive.

It also has an option to "archive" anything that may be overwritten but they can grow, sort of like Time Machine does, but the old ones need to be Trashed with the Finder as they won't be deleted for space reasons as TM can do.

If you are consolidating many folders from several different source drives, then you have no alternative to sorting the files manually. No program can decide for you whether birthday2002 from drive A is more desirable than birthday2002 from drive B. All a program can do is to select the newest file. Doesn't work if you have two files named the same but with differing content.

Create destination folders on the backup drive BACKUP FROM DRIVE A and BACKUP FROM DRIVE B and then manually merge the data after both drive have been backed up (not cloned) to their respective folders.
