The last couple of days (on my iMac - 2007 2GHz) every so often when I load a web page, the browser times out and fails... although all other devices on my network connect just fine. Browser resets sometimes work but not always. Any network settings I could look at?

You've provided pretty minimal details of your Mac, OS and software but, if you're using Safari, clear its History and use the option to include Top Site stuff, maybe empty cache, you'll probably loose any auto login stuff, your choice.

Shut down, boot up into Safe Boot Mode, (hold the shift key only when you hear the startup chime), select your user admin name, log in and then run Disk Utility to repair permissions/verify disk just in case and the just restart normally and see if things improve.

And empty your Trash after checking it if anything arrives in there.
